Rifle fairing?

Hi all, I am starting to look around for a winter shield and I saw this at Rifle:

They also have a "sport" fairing that is a bit larger. prices don't seem to be too bad and the styling looks to match our bikes a bit better than the older, rounded style fairings. Just thought I'd bring it up as an option and does anybody have one? I had one years ago on a Yamaha 650 twin and it was great till someone stole it off the bike!

It seems like the bikes on thier application list were older and in some cases not even current models. Might look OK on our bike though.

The mounts look to be generic and you just modify to fit whatever bike you have. I have an old National Cycle one that was on my Honda but I put it on my /6 and it works beautifully. To me the Rifle styling does blend well, sharp lines with some curves.

I have had a Rifle superbike on my Suzuki VX800 for about 15 years now. I'm 6'1", and the middle height screen threw all the wind right in my face. I ordered their tallest screen (20 or 22 inches?), but, due to the backward slant of the screen, it didn't change the wind blast. Then I added a "wing-tip" from SAENG (see little ads in the back pages of any motorcycle magazine), and it is now perfect for me. I ride open-face, and with this setup there's still air around my face, to the point that my eyes don't water in cold air even if I don't wear my motorcycle-specific glasses. If you do order a Rifle, ask for an extra pair of struts, and try mounting a pair from the handlebar clamp. On my bike this makes for a very sturdy and stable setup.

I had a Rifle mount on my '94 Honda CB1000.

It looked okay, and cut the wind blast, but the noise & buffeting was worse.

I also seem to recall that mounting it was ... interesting ... even with the "bike-specific" mounting kit.

YMMV, of course.

Good roads,

Excellent writeup/commentary by Fred Rau in this months Motorcycle Consumer News - about why he favors small windshields. He said - when he hears someone talking about how much they enjoy the pocket of calm air behind a barn-door shield, he immediately thinks the person would be happier in a Buick.

After going that route I tend to agree with Fred.. (nice guy too - I chatted with him a bit at the Square Route Rally a weekend or so ago..)
