You guys are bad. See I have been riding a Piemond Red R1150R for 5 years now and still loves it. But after reading so much about you guys experiences on the 1200 versions, I'd bite the bullet today and put in a down payment for a unit to be delivered in September. I did have a hard time deciding which color to pick. Finally I settled on the unique Crystal Grey. See the black would make the R looks just like any other Japanese bike on the street of Singapore. Well, time to wait. God help me make it through the coming 3 months of waiting...

As for color, I understand wanting to have something different from the crowd.
I wanted the Gray one originally but couldn't find one to buy and wasn't going to wait. If I remember correctly from a good friend who lives in Singapore, you're paying more than double what we are here in the US for the bike with all the taxes, so you might as well get the one you want. Even if the Black with stripes is faster...

For USD 25,560, the bike will come equipped with ABS, TPC, ASC, OBC, center stand, panniers. How much are paying over there in United States? Do you have the ESA option on your bike. Is this feature really useful? I mean how often would you adjust the suspensions setting?

I had ESA on my K12R.
Nice feature BUT knowing what i know now, i would go with Ohlins.

The ESA feature is excellent, so please don't misunderstand me.
Ohlins are on another level, though.
They make the ride soooo smooth, plush and comfortable that the standard BMW shocks really can't hold a candle to them.
Once the Ohlins are dialled in correctly, you won't have to touch a thing on them even when riding two-up fully loaded (unless you are really carving up the roads).
The ESA is not a novelty, but quality aftermarket suspension negates the need for it, i think.

Saying that, i also changed the suspension on my LT to Ohlins and the change was even more pronounced than on the R.

The going rate for a 1200R in the US is around $15,000 without the panniers, give or take... So I guess it's not quite double but you still have way more taxes than us.
I do not have ESA, and have to agree with Eisen about ESA versus Ohlins, though I have no real world experience with either... Most people around here who have ESA seem to like it quite a bit, but they don't offer a better ride than non ESA, just the ability to adjust the same Showa shocks without manually changing it. Really just a personal preference. Personally I would not buy the ESA, wait till you wear out the OEM shocks, then get Ohlins or Wilbers or Hyperpro's.
That is unless you're easily satisfied with the very best and will get Ohlins right away.

Hi ihosc, Good choice of bike. I've had ESA on both K1200R and on R1200R basically because New Zealand roads have such varying surfaces/bends/corners. From comments down here, I have heard the Ohlins do improve the handling greatly, however I have not experienced them myself. Grey will be worth the wait!

It seems I'm not able to get my bike in Crystal Grey color after all. My dealer told me today that BMW obsoleted that color, and offered 2 more - the alpine white and something blue. I checked the website and see the alpine white is now added in to the color scheme but not the blue. And I do not see any news posted claiming the obsoleted crystal grey. Anyone can confirm this? thanks.
