BMW R1200R R1150R/T F800 K1200R R1100R/T R1250R RnineT Message Board

Hi Guys - to say hello - have been watching and digesting the info you have posted on the R1200R. It has been very useful especially around the screen posts. I have just taken delivery of a 2008 Granite Grey R1200R (they go faster!), OBC,ESA, BMW bags, racks and rear luggage rack. RT Horn, and now awaiting Remus slip on. Previous bikes range from BSA Gold Flash, Norton Dominators to Kawasaki's to, K1100LT, R1150RT,K1200R & R1200GS. Also in the shed at the moment is a 2007 F650GS. . Whilst most of my riding is in North Island of NZ I do venture with mates into the South Island a couple of times a year. In due course I hope to be able to contribute to your posts.

BTW, it's common knowledge around here that the black with pin stripes is the fastest due to the reduced coefficient drag from of the stripes cutting the air!

How do find your R compared to the 1200GS?

I have a new F800GS - hardly any time to put km's on it, but a fun bike all the same. The engines sound fantastic under acceleration but i find the seat a little uncomfortable.
I heard that the 650 is more road biased.

Sorry, Joe, but just to get it straight once and for all, the sparkle of the metallic particles in the crystal grey paint causes a turbulent layer next to the surface, decreasing air friction (cutting drag) thus making the bike faster than one with a non-metallic finish.

The fact is that no one of you guys, knows how fast can be the WHITE one!

OK Guys. Thank you for your welcomes. We obviously have differences of opinions re colour/speed. From my observations there are those that only see things as black or white - which must restrict their reasoning, and those who can see grey areas - which must mean they have some lateral reasoning which of course means they are not restricted and their colours must therefore go faster.
famousperson, do not let them drag you into their specious arguments about coefficient drag etc. We will just sit here and know that not everything is black and white!
eisen, I changed from the 1200GS, 15000K in 6 months, for the simple reason that at my height of 5'10' I had the odd occasions when I was on my toes balancing and I was not relaxed when stopping &/or riding over rough roads. It was a great touring machine however I am hopeful that the R will match it. May perhaps have to resolve the sport screen problem. I agree with you on the F800GS seating but the bike did move beautifully - it was a grey one! My F650GS is also grey so there is no problem with speed there either.
