Anyone know the BMW part number and/or metric size for this washer? The parts fiche I looked it up on only shows the plug itself (presumably with the washer) and lists a price of $12. Somehow that doesn't seem right.

I looked in the service manual, it's not there sorry. Did you plug your vin in at www.realoem.com?
I don't think you have to replace that one, you should confirm that yourself, but I'm quite sure thats what I was told.
I remember saying this in my 24,000 mile DIY,
The Service Manager at a indy shop did not say to replace it and Chicago BMW confirmed that it was a permanent washer and doesn't need to be replaced.

Well, you don't actually "have" to replace any of them. Most of the time they can be re-used without a problem. But the service manual does say to use a new washer during the oil change. And since mine was weeping and I didn't want to spend the time to have my dealer fix it on warranty, I figured I'd just pop on a new washer.

I've checked several on-line parts lists (including realoem.com) and haven't found a washer listed, so maybe your service manager is right. Or maybe that's what he concluded after finding that HE can't buy them either. But I was hoping than someone here had replaced theirs and could quote me a part number from the invoice.

BMW has been discontinuing listings for aluminum crush washers - and moving towards selling the plug and the washer as a unit.

It's times like those that make aftermarket sources so valuable.. Harbor Freight has a big box'o'crush washers for only small money.. and I'm sure there are other good sources out there.
