Give Me Hope

I am a new member, the name is Doug Cannam from Alberta, Canada. I am currently three months into a four month delivery schedule on a black w stripe R1200R, safety and #2 packages, bags, top case and a few other bits. I've only gotten a few pages into the R1200R forum and it seems quite useful so far, the GPS discussion in particular. I am looking forward to learning from, and participating in, the forum.
History: Wasted youth, spent all of grade 11 on my Kawi 250 Scrambler, somehow graduated. CB450 and CB750 paid for by student loans during university. House, mortgage, family, airplanes in that order. Wife hated planes (we were going to orphan our kids in a flaming wreck) so back to bikes @ 45 (10 years ago). '84 GS1150EF, '99 Hayabusa, '74 CB750 K6 and '79 CBX, plus a couple of beaters. Still have the beaters and the Hondas, wife has just bought a CBR125R. Selling the Hayabusa made me cry.
Purpose of the R1200R: utility, performance, reliability, save the knees; not having to worry about getting enough heat through the exhaust system so it doesn't rot.
Rode the bike for the first time two weeks ago at the local demo day, wasn't disappointed, sophisticated chassis/thumper of a motor.
Four more weeks, someone give me a stick to chew on!

Well, being "three months into a four month delivery schedule," the end is at least in sight! I know how you feel, though. After buying my R1200R, I left it with the dealer so they could get and install the farkels before delivery and so that I could ride it directly to the nearby Smokey Mountains for its run-in miles. That was a LONG ten days!

My four week wait has miraculously turned into next Tuesday @ 10:30, YIPPEEE!
BTW, what's a farkel, is it anything like a dubrey?

From the Wiki:
Farkle (`Far-kel) - The word Farkle belongs to the vernacular of the North American motorcyclist, and refers to accessories or the act of accessorizing a motorcycle.
Farkles may include any accessories but especially those intended to increase the function of a motorcycle -- vs. those intended to glamorize (i.e. if an accessory is chromed, it is probably not a farkle - see Bling.)
Examples include items that do not arrive as standard equipment on the motorcycle, such as Radar detectors, GPS systems, heated grips, satellite radios, highway pegs, or top and side cases.

OK, now I understand, a picture is worth a thousand words, or in this case, several thousand dollars. BTW, where is the dishwasher mounted?

Doug,
Now that is a proper, gentlemen-like introduction.
Much nicer than the folk who just come in demanding answers without so much as a hello, or thank you.
I can completely relate with you right now, I've been off my bike for what seems like forever (really just 5 weeks) from a crash. The end is near for both of us, and my bike is coming back quite different than I left it... Either way you and I shall be in motorbike heaven soon enough on what most people around here would argue is the most well rounded, best bike ever! Hang in there, it's worth the wait.
Since it's late at night and I really have nothing betting to do (pathetic) here's a few pics of what could be your bike with various backgrounds:
First day - the beginning of a great relationship
Second day - farkle fever setting in already
Welcome to the forum, hopefully these few pics will help the time pass, though tuesday will come fast!...
-Joe

Thanks Joe, the bike looks great and I am now counting the hours (72 1/2 to be exact). I asked the dealer to put the sport windshield on and leave the top case mount off and he got it backwards. So it'll come with the tall windshield and the top case mount, exactly like your last picture. 72 hours 28 minutes.
I like your comment about various backgrounds. Putting a motorcycle in front of various backgrounds is kinda what it's all about in the first place.
72 hours 25 minutes.

Joe,
Thanks for the backgrounds, I've got a couple of hours at the office and 13 hours to delivery. Think I'll settle in with a good coffee and burn up a couple of those 13 hours with the backgrounds when I get home tonight. My bud takes delivery of his '08 K1200S on Wednesday, to steal one of his sentiments, tonight feels like Christmas Eve!
Hope the foot mends fast, good lesson for all of us.

Hey, Joe,
I talked with the folks at Chicago BMW yesterday and gave them your name. They said to give you a dope slap.

Heal fast, buddy.
