BMW R1200R R1150R/T F800 K1200R R1100R/T R1250R RnineT Message Board

I posted this earlier on advrider and thought I would ask here as well. I just joined this forum and appreciate the info provided by the members.
Anyway,
I am looking at purchasing a new R12R and have two options.
I can get a new 2007 with, ABS, pinstripe, sport shield, heated grips, chrome exhaust, TPM, center-stand ASC, on-board computer, ESA, and the bag rails for $16,749 (including freight and handling, not tax).

Or a 2008 with on-board computer, heated grips, and center-stand for $15,694 (including freight and handling, not tax).

Obviously the 07 is more money and has all the bells and whistles but will soon be two model years old.
Newer model or more options?

I just picked up my brand new 2007 r.
It's loaded...
I believe there is very little difference between the 2007 and 2008 model.
I think over time you will enjoy all the options..

I don't think a year or 2 in age will make any difference...

I wouldn't consider the '08 since it doesn't have ABS - and lots of BMW riders are like that, so resale on it will probably be less than the '07 - which is loaded. I'm sure BMW has some deal on leftover '07's now like free stuff or some $$ towards accessories/clothing. Pester the dealer for that - and visit the BMW website. The '07 is very nicely equipped, if it was me - I'd go for that one.

Yes they are.. the very bestest.

Spent about 3 glorious hours on mine this afternoon, going exactly nowhere on back roads in south-western NJ (there are some very nice roads there - flat but twisty) and it was 84F! Nice. Supposed to be nice tomorrow. Nice!

No - that's the midnight black with no stripes.. it's the pinstripes that make it the bestest..

I one of those that believe in ABS. I have two other bikes, a Duc with no ABS and a 99 R1100S with ABS. I find the ABS system on the R1200R to be the best for my style of riding. I'm old and slow and don't do track days. I don't trust myself to be able to modulate the brakes in a panic situation. I trust the ABS system to do that for me. The ABS on the R1200R is much better than the system on my R1100S. Its my belief that the R1200R ABS is the ultimate ABS system. Its truly invisible until needed. I'd rather have the '07 with ABS, as well as the other goodies. In any case you are looking at one of the finest rides BMW has ever produced. I think the R bike is the best kept secret in the BMW lineup. Good luck with whichever bike you choose!

As an admirer of the R1200R, it strikes me that an 07' with NO hard bags costs $16.5K. At that price you could almost buy a R1200RT. Just seems a bit pricey to me when it's supposed to be around $12-$13K.

My only advice is hurry up and make a choice so you can see what you've been missing.

It's 12-13k without anything. No ABS, no OBC, no centerstand, no bag mounts, nada. zilch. The problem is - unless you order one (and that would be a 2009 probably) - none of them come that way. The other thing is - if the prices were equal, I'd rather have an R1200R than an R1200RT. Tried an RT - big whale of a bike IMHO. In some cases less is more - this is one of them for me.

Good point! When I was in the market for a bike 2 years ago, I had the same dilema when comparing a R1200ST and K1200S. It seemed the K bike had much more "technology" for about the same price. (A lot more horsepower too!)

I would definitely consider purchasing a R, but doubt I would be interested in a RT.

Go for the 2007 you would be a fool(imo) to pass up the ABS system witch is one of the best(if not best) systems out there today. Also there are almost no changes made to the 2008 model except for the seat. There will be a brake line recall on the R1200R for the front brakes so take this in consideration cause a lot off you guys over there seem to live a far way from there dealers(something you might wanna negociate about). What ever you do though get a R with ABS.

An R1200RT with all the goodies (heated seats/grips, ASC, standard ABS, and so on) and without either a radio or radio prep, and without top case, will sticker out at right around $19,500 including the dealer charge ... that's quite a difference. I know; just priced one on the BMW website the other day...
