commuting of a motorcycle

I want to start using cycle more for commuting. I like to be able to monitor the traffic conditions. That way I can alter my route to avoid slow downs or accidents and such. What are some options for me to consider in the way of equipment to do this? I am thinking of satellite radio or just an mp3 player with a radio tuner in it. I would like to be cost effective in my choice, but I want a system that works well also. Looking for suggestions on how to address this dilemma.

same as Boris -- The Zumo plus XM nav traffic works well for me. Of course, they only cover major metropolitan areas. Where do you live?

Lane splitting, Boris ? In my dreams. Where I live they're angry that I use the carpool lane. I think the XM would be the answer. I only have a 20 mile run to make, but I used to go on up into Seattle and had a couple of real jams that could have been avoided had I had traffic radio of some sort. I don't bother with entertainment with only 20 miles, but if I had a longer ride I'd probably throw the Ipod in the tankbag. But let's talk about radar detectors shall we ? I think that might be a commuter's tool. I have had a few close shaves with radar guns on the way to work and wouldn't mind hearing about you commuters that use detectors.
