Duck racing down under.

Post by DJ Downunder »

The Great Australia day duck race was held here in Melbourne today.

Although Australia day was on Saturday 26th..today (Monday 28th) was the public holiday.

To raise money for Clean Up Australia and Life Saving Victoria they have a duck race down the Yarra river that flows through the city of Melbourne.

You can buy a duck for five dollars and be in the running to win a new car.

Here's a link.. http://www.cleanup.org.au/au/Donate/adopt-a-duck.html

To avoid the crowds and parking problems my daughter Claire in I paddled up the river to where the race was held.

We had a great day..Here's some pics..This is Claire..She's now 14 yrs old..and almost as tall as her Dad.

Image

Claire has not been SUP'ing (stand up paddling) for long and although she was a bit shaky but didn't fall in.

This is my friend Nic (closest to the camera) and me cruising up the side of the duck race coarse.

Here I am thinking..Are you taking a pic of me?

Image

Claire is trained well..Cold drinks..and a good pozzie to watch the race..See the yellow ducks in the distance about to start.

Image

The crowd is cheering..The ducks are racing...It's all very exiting...Well sorta.

Image

Our duck was number 2648..and Claire had called it Rosie (after her cat)..and she was yelling.. "Come on Rosie".

And the winner is...2888...Bugger...Oh well it was all good fun.

Image

After the duck race we headed into the city for lunch.

Here is Claire with the city buildings behind her.

Southbank BMW was just around the corner so we walked past.

They were shut being a public holiday..But through the window I could see this beauty.

WALK on water! What a concept! I though only one man could do that, and he's been dead for 2008 years!

Nice day, great pics, good food, and you have a lovely daughter.
How'd you do it!
Oh yeah, you walk on water, too!

Thanks for posting these pics. I'm going to have to see if there are any SUPer's around here. That really looks like great fun.

Is it hard to get on if you fall in?

Thanks..If you have any water near you (surf, river, lake) you should try it..It just might be your thing in life.. :D .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9kjqJZMt-Q

The idea is to not fall in..but if you do it very easy to get back on..I SUP for a couple of hours most days and fall in once a month at the most.

It's not that hard...and a great way to keep fit..This is me and where I go most days.

BTW...The duck race is nothing new..Mike from the UK sent me a great pic that he took at their duck race..I'll post it soon.
