How many of you are BMW MOA's members? I read the club has close to 45,000 members, and with your membership you get a book with the names and contact info of BMW owners willing to help in case of an emergency breakdown or maintenance. The membership fee was $32 a year, but would it be worth it? I was thinking of joining but everytime I have had a problem or question, I've got excellent advice from the posters on here. Last question, does anyone on this site live near Columbia Missouri? It would be great if someone could help me learn some of the basics of maintenance on this bike.

Yup. A member, here. TO me, its worth the $35 for the BMWON and the Annonymous book. Reminds me, need to renew.
I've got local access to a fantastic and helpful local BMW club, so "technically" I don't need the membership.

Been a member since my airhead days. Great magazine and The Book is more than worth the money.
Lionlady where is a local club outside of Balto.? Of course I am near Deep Creek Lake that is really outside of Baltimore.

I am a long time member (over 20 years, I forget exactly

)
Worth the money, I think. They also have a messaging service which can help lost riding partners reunite. The anonymous book is very worthwhile (I am in there!). The magazine goes through cycles of varying quality but is usually pretty good.
Unlike other bike mags, you know you won't see any paper wasted on 'liter Jap bike shootout' or such things appealing to the knee dragging set (not that there is anything wrong with that

)

Did you get the lifetime membership, or did you renew every year?

Definitely worth it for the magazine and anonymous book. I've never had to use the book, but I have been called by a stranded rider. It is a comfort to have on a trip or long ride.

Wholeheartedly agree with all here that the MOA is worthwhile. Been a member since I bought my Roadster.
The magazine is worth reading on occasion but the Anon Book really makes it worth it. Haven't had to use it - nor has anyone using it contacted me - but having it gives great peace of mind when you're on the road. Very nice to know that almost everywhere you go, there'll be someone willing to give you a hand should you need it.

Been a member except for a short period in the late '90s. I have not used the Anonymous Book, but it is nice knowing that if/when I do need it, it's there. I also got my commemorative badge as a 100,000 mile rider; it's about another 20,000 before I get my 200,000 mile award. It's taken me too long as I haven't ridden as many miles as I should, now averaging about 11K miles per year. They're Beemers man!
Also, BMWMOA are not BMW the Corporation's bedfellows.

If you click on the "www" button below my posts, you'll go right to the
BMW Bikers of Metropolitan Washington's home page. The club is one of the oldest in the country. Since DC and Balto bump elbows, two "competing" clubs combined waaaay back when. 500+ members all over the country - being in a BIG military headquarters area, folks join when they get stationed here, then keep up the membership when they get stationed elsewhere.
There is an active "Baltimore" contingent of the club. We do regular Tech Days in both VA and MD... Someone opens their garage and experience up to folks wanting to do maintenance or upgrades, and not sure how to do it. They do the work themselves, with help/guidance. They're as much social as educational.
If I remember right, BMWBMW has got the second oldest annual rally (coming up in June - 35 years, if I'm not mistaken) the Square Route Rally.

I'm a MOA member also. It is a good organization, fun local and national rallies, great magazine, a very active forum, and a large marketplace (stuff for sale). Let me also put in a recommendation for the BMW RA (Riders Association). It is a smaller organization and not as formal/uptight as the MOA. The RA also has a good magazine with more philosophical writing. I haven't attended one of their rallies yet but the 08 national rally is in Michigan's upper pennisula and I'm all over that!
