Hi
Just bought an accessory socket from John Deer to put on my 03 R1150R.
I located the wire behind the starter for this socket. However there is a clip on it? Hmmm...

Do I cut this clip off? If so, which wire goes where? Does it matter? One wire is red the other brown.
Or do I just buy the BMW one and plug it in??

Yes, it matters.

For BMW's the brown wire is the ground (Neg). The red wire is the battery positive that is always hot, so pull the #4 fuse (15Amp) before cutting off the connector and attaching/soldering the BMW wires to the John Deere socket. Be aware that the same fuse powers the clock.

I've heard the JD sockets are interchangeable with the BMW sockets and plugs and they're "less expensive". I'm curious as to the quality comparison of the 2. You'd think the less expensive JD version might be inferior, but, since almost ALL power equipment vibrates a LOT more than our Beemers they'd have to be good enough for JD to stand behind them. I'll be looking for the green sign of my local JD dealer for another 12V male plug. They're a lot closer too.
