It's that season again, the time of year when riding in the rain and cold may take the fun out of owning such a fine machine as the R1200R.

I don't know what you folks do when this happens. I stay indoors, drink beer, watch video footage and pictures I shot of my bike, pour a tall whiskey, turn on the recording equipment and record some sloppy guitar playing, and then blend the whole mess into a short video clip for a moderately current entry in my blog. Usually I get out the Gerbings stuff plug it in, and as long as the road is dry keep riding. In the past few winter I usually buy an old Jap bike (cheap) and hammer it into a cafe racer. Some I keep some I sell or give away (to family). Yes - I'm retired.

"Season ends"... whazat?.. We rde 12 months out of the year here.. That doesn't mean it doesnt' get cold - it gets damned cold. We just bundle up (Gerbings electrics helps a lot), and keep riding..

The riding season never ends in Texas!

It doesn't get that cold in Seattle, does it? Layer up/get some electrics and make the riding season longer.

Snow hardly ever lasts more than a few days in NJ.. so my goal is once a week the bike gets exercised and I get my mental therapy. Dog invented Gerbing heated gear just for that reason..

I don't know what you folks mean by riding, but the style that I do ends when the temp drops and the pavement is wet, or there is snow on the ground. For those of you who have no decent roads to speak of, such as in New Jersey, I guess you can "ride" all year.

I am not exclusively a fair-weather rider, but if there aren't serious curves involved, what's the point of burning fuel?.

Yes, I am in Seattle, but for me there isn't much riding to be done past the point of mere grocery running. Heck, I can take a bus to work in less time than it takes me to put on my riding gear.

Seattle riding is a drag. There are about three roads worth riding in western Washington, for the style of riding I like to do. Try those road this time of year and you'll find yourself running into this, as you rail through a blind corner:



It was this very reason that I became a dirt rider. I can ride all year, and I love riding in the snow. However, with a $17K curve-eater in the garage, I pine for better weather and longer days. Give me Angeles Crest, Latigo Canyon, Mulholland Drive, Encanto Canyon Road, Sand Canyon, Wilson Valley Road, Mt. Palomar, the French Alps, or Cap Corse.

South Louisiana really does not have a season problem. Winter consists of maybe a week or so of cold weather (Cold is 30's mostly!) then back to summer.

Rain is a somewhat common problem here, so we have rainsuits!. Beemers run fine in the rain


We drown our weather problems in Gumbo, Crawfish, fried alligator, ourstanding seafood etc. Y'all Come See Us

Hmmmm.... what do I do when the riding season ends? This is Chicago... yes it definitely ends. Snow may only last a few days at a time, but the roadsalt lasts all winter....

I daydream about riding... I dream about riding... and if that doesn't work... I get depressed about not riding...

We keep the good roads to ourselves.. and try to trick everyone into thinking NJ is the NJ Turnpike, and the Sopranos introduction. It appears it worked... cool!

BTW - we were told in 2nd grade that we wouldn't melt in the rain....

OH GOOD --- The winter festivities are starting already and it's still 108 days till I depart to Bike Week.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Gerbings here, and preferably a bike with a fairing, so my R1200R spends more time in the garage, but the other bikes with taller wind screens still like to come out and play if it isn't raining.

I am hoping to get Gerbing gear for Christmas. If I do, I'm riding whenever the roads are dry! As it is, I ride until it gets below 45 (with long johns below 50).
