BMW R1200R R1150R/T F800 K1200R R1100R/T R1250R RnineT Message Board

Getting ready to install the Zumo and was looking for a little help. The power cord that came with the Zumo (BMW vershion) has at one end a white plastic plug, can I presume there is another end already attached to the R1200R to recieve the plug, and where would I find it?

Can you post a photo of the plug? There is a GPS/accessory socket sip tied on the left side downtube if it is the correct match for what you have, otherwise you would need to order the matching plug from BMW (about $38 US)

Looked at doing couldn't determine how, any advice?

I'm going to assume the BMW version Zumo comes with an end that plugs into the dedicated GPS plug on the bike - my non-BMW version had a bare wire, but I got a part from the dealer that allowed me to connect to the same GPS plug.

The plug you are looking for is zip tied to a vertical frame tube - I think the tube is at a bit of an angle going up towards the front of the bike. If you stand in front of the bike, the plug is under the tank, left side, above the horn. It is possible to get at it without removing the tank, but very difficult. I removed the black plastic piece that covers the front of the tank (four screws, careful the front part of it is "glued" - the glue/putty just pulls away and I reused it when I put it back, just cleaned up the excess with GooGone). I also undid the screws holding the tank and simply pushed the tank back and up a bit - don't need to remove the tank. But doing all this gave me much easier access to the connector.

The connector is wrapped in black tape so it might be hard to spot. I thought it was a used connector on my bike until I realize that was facing down on the tube. It really is easy to find. Just locate and plug in the Zumo. It provides power when the key is on and when you turn the key off it has a 90 second delay before the power shuts off.

I don't have pictures but there are other posts on here that talk about the location of the connector. My description is consistent with those. Again, just look for a black frame tube with a tape-wrapped connector zip-tied to it. Under front of tank, above/behind the horn.

If you want an alternative plug which doesn't turn off power when the bike is off you can mount a Powerlet type plug somewhere around your triple tree. I got a mounting bracket from Powerlet which allowed my to remove the left hand windshield mounting screw and simply mount the bracket along with the windsjeld bracket with the same screw. I ran a pair of wires under the gas tank to the rear of the seat where I have mounted a Cen-tech fuse panel. Wiring stuff to the Cen-tech allows you to by pass the Can-bus system altogether. I have the Cen-tech panel wired directly to my battery. It makes a very convenient way to wire GPS, heated jackets or any other equipment.
