Notice the intercom wire? The only way I would ruin my riding experience with rider/pillion incomm would be if the pillion were such a player

Chitown , That is a nice shop. My compliments to your skills and to the size of your cohones. You might want to carry some of those temparary valve covers. I have heard that on the forks is not a good place to carry luggage. Something about sprung weight I guess. How did it feel to you?

It feels just fine. The less weight in or on top of the top box, the better the handling IMHO. I've done it before, even on my 1150, though the beak made it harder.
Some valve covers, along with a GS engine guard are on my list for this winter...

Glad you asked Mark -- I didn't have a clue.
Back when I was working for a living (before retirement) I used to like stopping meetings and asking people the meaning of the acronym they just used. It's amazing how many people throw acronyms around and have no idea what they mean.

Question.....When getting to the edge like that what runs out first the tires or the cylinder head clearence?
I'm assuming your suspension is stock.
Oh ,and I used to feel same about riding like that with hard bags till 2 yrs ago when I was chasing some sport bikes at the Gap with my Vstrom and while tooo hot in a right hander I bottomed out on the exhaust pipe heat shield resulting in my rear wheel comming off the ground. Normaly this means by-by, but muraculisly somehaw it hooked up again and to my desbelif and pantfull I carried on to pass that sportbike. The explenation to my luck came to light next day when I was taking the bags off nottacing a large gauge in the bottom corner of the right Bag.
I do not complain about riding with the bags anymore.
I get my R12 in the spring so have not had the oportunity to flog one in that fashion yet but I'm waried about cylinders touching before the tires are all the way to the edge. I will be adding Ohlins or Weilbers and hopefully this will allow to run out of tires way before cylinder clerance.

My suspension is stock, though after 25,000 miles I can feel the need to replace the shocks soon.
When leaning into a turn the first thing to rub is your boots, I have to ride with the balls of my feet on the pegs when getting down. Then the foot pegs, the brake lever and the valve cover's.
To answer your question, yes the valve does grind before you run out of tire. For me at least when riding on Pirelli Scorpion Syncs.
I do believe the bags would scrape at this angle, but I have no proof yet.
Hopefully some new shocks will help.

I camped one night at state park around Hamlin in WV, then one night at High Country Motorcycle Camp in Ferguson, NC then one night in KY at a jellystone campground around Jamestown
High Country was the best of course. Don was great to hang out with, and gave me a great route to make my way towards the Gap. I'll be back to see him and camp at his nice place soon.
