need soft luggage so I don't dent my cars in the driveway

Post by toddprosky »

I posted this question earlier and most advice was to get hard bags, the problem with hard bags is getting past my cars in the driveway when leaving for work, moving the cars every day takes too much time when I'm in a hurry I try to ride to work every day if i can ,I can fit without bags and soft bags wouldn't damage the cars so which of the soft bags are good quality. thanks for the help.

Maybe you can get a rear seat "tail Pack". There are all types on the market and they hold a lot of stuff. Your bike will remain "narrow" also.

Get the city lids for your cases. With the city lids on they are narrower than your handlebars so you should be safe...unless you weave around alot going out the drive.

There ARE, however, several varieties of soft saddlebag type luggage not specifically designed for this bike but would possibly work. Look in the BMW ON magazine at the ads. I think that's where I saw them.

The Cortech Sport Saddlebags are a good choice. I have them, but am giving them to a friend since I have the system cases. They are well made and the attaching system works well with the R1150R.

Umm. BMW hard cases click off the bike in about 5 seconds or less.

You can carry THEM past the cars and set them down, then get your bike past the cars, and latch the cases back on. The nice thing about hard bags is that they're a LOT sturdier(lockable) and more durable than any soft luggage I've ever seen. Unless you do deep water crossings, they're water proof as well.

I had the same problem. I bought city cases and now they are narrow enough for me to fit any place the handle bars go. The regular case lids go on and city lids off in 5 minutes.

If you can fit all your stuff with 'em on, the city lids are a good choice.

Some of us have done the CycleRob fix, or maybe other fixes for that matter, which keep even properly secured bags from flying off as you ride (yes, they fly, especially after the first bounce).
I got tired of trying to put the pin through the hole in the dark at 5AM. On one occasion, I dropped the pin while trying to catch the donut that fell out of my mouth. So, on went the city lids.
Take it from an experienced, multitasking lazy person... it is so convenient just to start up and go.

You might want to check out RKA's expandable soft saddlebags. They fit the bike perfectly, are easy to take on and off. Mine have held up really well during 2 years of commuting through all sorts of weather.........tkm

Following up on the tail pack idea... I use a rockster platform instead of the rear seat and have safety wired a Chicane trunk bag to it. Lots of room and looks better than the BMW tail bag - to me...

Also has a sewn in rain fly that matches my silver R 8)
