Ok, so I chucked my stock bars and got a set of Renthals. I went up to their site, looked through the list of standard 7/8" dirtbike bars, compared my rise and sweepback to what they offered, picked out what I wanted, and ordered it from a local shop. These are actually listed as replacements for a KX250.



On the clutch side the bar is actually knurled under the grip area, this makes it slightly larger in diameter than on the throttle side. So you have to pry the clamp, that holds the controls on the bar, to fit the larger diameter through it. Don't pry too much cause that cast aluminum clamp will snap right off... trust me I know. Once the controls are in place the grip will go on with a little bit of pushing and twisting. Not even sure I'll need to put the two screws back in to hold it in place. Maybe one just for insurance. On the throttle side there is no knurling, so things slide on a bit easier. Haven't quite figured out what I'm going to do about the heated grips or the weights. Renthal does make bar end weights, but you can't just put them in cause the wires for the heated grip move as you twist the throttle, so you have to give them some slack in the setup. Have to think about that one some.

Although these things are aluminum, you don't really need the brace cause the wall thickness is about an eight of an inch... sturdy.

You think if I leave the brace pad on it's too much...

Looks good... ...I'd take the brace pad off...are they any wider than standard?

Leave the pad on. It'll look cool when you are doing double back flips.

These bars are about the same width as the stock one's. They have less sweepback... I'm 6'3", I need the arm room.

I've fitted a set of Renthals to my Rockster.

I had to make do without the heated grips until I can sort the bar ends out, but overall I'm happy with them. I should point out that they are styled akin to the standard 'R' bars, much more confidence inspiring IMO.

Do you know what model number you used and do you have any pictures?

I tried to get in contact with the guy who sells Ricky Bars to help me out but his phone has been disconnected and the e-mail is no good so I guess he is no longer doing business.

I don't want to just start buying bars because that would be a waste and the local shops carry very few in stock. If anyone knows what bars would be a direct replacement for the R1150R or R1150GS I would really appreciate the help. I have bar backs on the the Rockster now but I still find it very uncomfortable for straight long rides so I need to do something. I guess I have really short arms or is it that I'm just getting old. I've searched the internet until my eyes hurt with no luck on finding the specs for the stock bars. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right places. Thanks for the help in advance.

My bars were not a direct replacement. They're lower, so that part number will not do you any good. Here's how I worked out what I wanted...

My stock Rockster bars have approximately 62mm rise, 165 mm sweep, and they are 787 mm wide.

Sit on your bike, put your hands where you think you want them and have someone measure the change in distance. Then go to a site like this:

and see if they have bars that would give you what you want. In my case the rise was OK but I wanted less pullback (flatter) so I got bars that were 71 x 65 x 800.

Cool and thanks. I guess I've gotten so use to riding dual sports that it just doesn't seem natural to lean over so far for long distances. In the twisties it's not bad because your constantly shifting from side to side to lean off the seat and into the curves but on the long stretches to get to the curves my neck and shoulders really cramp up because my neck is bent back in an unnatural position. I know it's partly caused by a disk problem in my upper spine from an injury while I was in the military so I don't think I will ever get use to it. I guess it's off to chiropractor again to get my spine cracked.

If I could get the seating position I had on my Buell XB12SS I would be in heaven because I could ride that bike all day long.

I just did the math on the sweep (165mm), are you sure about that number? That's about 6.5" of pullback. My bars are much straighter than that.

Yup, that's what it was. I bought the bike used, so maybe the bars were not stock. I have the bars sitting in the garage...

Holy crap, I just got off the phone with local BMW dealer and was told that a new set of Roadster bars would cost $310. I asked him if I got a kiss with that and he just laughed.

Look like stock BMW bars to me, yes they have the ends that allow heated grips. I have them (the heated grips) on my bike. Send me an IM next week. I'm going on a 4-day trip. Next week I can take a photo and you can make me an offer.

Does anyone out there have a set of stock Roadster bars that they're willing to sell?

My Rockster bars are great for blasting around in the city, but on the highway that super-wide grip is taxing on my shoulders, wrists and neck.

Those Renthal aluminum bars are well made and fairly inexpensive. I had one in my former Ducati 900 Monster and was leaps and bounds better than the OEM one.......
