question for the granite grey metallic owners

I have not seen the granite grey bike in person yet and from the looks in the photos it appears to be matte type finish--meaning not very shiny at all? Is this true as to how it looks in person? My 11R is ascot green metallic and still shines almost as if it were new. Do the owners of the grey "miss" having the shine if that's indeed the case? And if it is the case is there a way to make that finish shine either with some type of clear coat or anything else?

Thanks!

Leonardo

You're right, it's not shiny. I'd call it a "semi-gloss" finish, not nearly as matte as the matte grey Honda used on the 919, for example. Not the same, of course, but the feel is a bit like the brushed stainless steel on a DeLorean.

Personally, I like it (or else I wouldn't have bought it). Very Teutonic. And I don't think it will show scratches and swirl marks nearly as much as, say, the gloss black.

Related question: Anyone know how close Shoei's "Pearl Grey" is to BMW's Granite Grey?

I wasn't sure I'd like granite grey. But once I saw it for myself, that was all she wrote. I love the finish. I agree that it looks mostly like brushed stainless steel. Very utilitarian and, for want of a better word, very masculine. The contrast with the black bits and the powder-coated parts is very nice. It's very easy to maintain, and it really doesn't show dirt. I'm very happy with mine.

I love this color so much I want to paint my Mini Granite Grey! Anyone know if this paint can be bought through the dealer?

That would be a perfect color for a MINI.
The question is: stripes, or no stripes?

...and yes, the satin like finish of the Granite Gray is gorgeous. Check out mcavotta's pics here:

He manages to capture the color and finish quite well in pictures.

I would have gone with the Granite Gray myself, but everyone knows the black with pinstripes is faster...

I would vote none, but flat black stripes would look cool...as would a set of graphite/gunmetal wheels :-)

Ditto. I was originally taking a Granite Gray one - but the fuel level sensors were broken, so.. they had the black with white pins ready to go (and no demo miles on it..) so..

I think the dull gray shows off the shapes of the tank much better than the shiny black does. I rather like both of them, but admit my first preference was for the Granite Gray (and I've never seen the other gray - which I believe is somewhat lighter..)

I also have the Granite Grey. Was thinking of getting the black, but the Granite Grey just looked very.....ummm...technical, and very original. It really stands out. I get unknown people looking at it at the lights and giving the thumbs up and smiling.

No problems as far as scratches are concerned so far.

BTW, I think it's actually more of a gunbarrel finish.

I am considering a R1200R and wanted Granite Gray but they only have a Black available (in Sweden and I wanted ESA).

Am wondering if I should wait until the 08 bikes are out.... Black would be my second choice though.

I am also curious as to what the "facelift" they are doing to the R1200ST will be.

We haven't heard anything about a facelift to it - all that is heard in the US has been it was discontinued.

As far as a facelift - well - take the headlight (take it anywhere except in my garage.. please..)
