I got a new Road Gear tool kit for Fathers Day today!
What tools should I put in it? Does anyone have sufficient memory to recall the most commonly used Torx sizes on our bikes?

BMW sells a supplemental toolkit (there's even a spot for it under the seat). Unfortunately I don't know what's in it, but maybe someone else does - That would be a good start.
Other than the special torx and other assorted bits, I'd suggest:
- some duct tape (they make a small "roll" - it's wrapped around itself not a cardboard core),
- wire ties,
- a little bit of gardening wire (good to tie something back up),
- a leatherman,
- an LED flashlight (often on sale at harborfreight),
- a $20 bill (enough to get gas should you have lost your wallet).
Anybody else have any ideas?

Hope this works, but here's a list of what's in the supplemental tool kit:

The tool kit that comes with the bike is really lame. The one in my 1150R was much better. I bought a Lisle Torx Bit set that are 1/4 and 3/8 inch drive sockets. It has T-10,15,20,25,27,30,40,45,50 bits. I found use for all of them except the T-10 and 15 bits. I also put in a T-55 wrench that I found in my garage. To drive the bits, I put a 3/8 inch ratchet and a 1/4 inch adapter as well as a three inch extension. Also included in my kit is a 13 and 15mm socket.

I bought a really nice folding Torx wrench set for $16.50 from Snap-On for all those bloody Torx fasteners. I haven't touched my ball-end hex wrenches with the R1200R.

I didn't think Snap-On had anything for less than 50.00,

Something that I carry in my kit that I use every evening when I am on the road and have stopped for the day is a little Famous Grouse and a good cigar. Also probably the most important item in any kit is a credit card.

I just added a 10mm socket for the brake bleeders and a 12 point 5/16 socket for the external torx screw on the rear shock mount. I'm going to get a small L.E.D flashlight and multi-tool to throw in there as well. A bunch of quarters would come in handy in case the only air pump around is coin operated.

Today I populated my new tool kit with all of the things listed in the "Car Tool Supplementary Kit" K27 R1200R. All but items 12,13, and 14. The other stuff I had around purchased at flea markets.
It fit under the seat just fine. I do also have a Slime Tire Kit which is nice a small.

Was it on this site that I saw someone who was machineing a spark plug wire extractor tool from aluminum?

A&S BMW sells an aluminum puller for about $40. I think I saw another one a bit cheaper, but still up there, I forget where. I bought the plastic BMW puller tool for $2. I figure if I wear it out, I'll buy another. I don't expect to be pulling my plugs very often.
BTW, speaking of plugs, Motion Pro makes a nice spark plug socket that fits in our plug wells. #08-0239. About $20. Nothing else in the aftermarket seems to fit.

Thanks Neil. I'll look around. I see you've named your bike Zelda. I'm still looking for a name for mine.
