Today after binding front brakes my front hose burst spraying brake
flluid all over the front exhaust pipe it looked like it was on fire

I am removing the ABS in toto and connecting my brakes directly to the master cylinder.

The ABS was continually applying the brakes and everything would heat up and drag, the hose burst, kinda messy...

I have just returned from a 3400 km trip and would have been disastorous if it happened a week earlier

ABS is around $3200 conservative estimate so i dont need to spend
that much to make my motorbike a high tech unreliabiability problem.

Is this a conspiracy by BMW to get you going back all the time for the faulty ABS systems they have developed, after watching
"Long way round" with Ewen Macgregor going thru Mongolia & Russia
the brand new loan bikes had failing ABS systems as well.

Now that i have that off my chest can someone tell me how much harder you have to pull on the brakes without ABS fitted?

as i thought it was servo assisted...


How many people out there have had failing flashing ABS warnings?

What a bummer! What year is you bike and I assume warranty is expired? Wonder if BMW might do anything for you out of warranty. They did for me last year on another issue. Might be worth looking into.

On you question-- my 03 is non-abs and the brake effort required is minimal. Not sure if that answers your question or not.

Have often thought that do to high price of repairing ABS that I would scrap them when the time came. Dont know if existing master cylinders will work or if you have to use non abs parts. Keep me informed if you change out.

you're looking in the wrong place if the abs unit went faulty like the early one's, you can pick up the pump unit in the uk for £100 up ($250Aus)

sounds like a sealing fault eg: cheap arse O rings
had one pump go, cost me £75 to fix it!!!.....a total p.i.t.a.

bit like the crappy rust+ bolts they use

the abs computer will have the fault codes in it, If you like I'll find out who's beta testing the gs911 in Aus....

just remember bits over here are way more plentiful & cheaper than Aus

I just replaced my mirrors/ rocker covers now blue /black instruments/Air horn total cost £140

I think the master cylinder (the reservoir assembly on the handlebar) has a different ratio for non-abs systems. It may be harder to operate the brakes but I don't know of anyone that has true experience in this area.
