The terrible news of Doug's crash reminded me of an important fire safety tip:
When removing the plugs from a wall socket, do so slowly. DO NOT yank them out.
I've pulled many a plug in the past (often from across the room). But the spark of electricity that you see can ignite the insulation on the *inside* of the wall and start a fire that you won't even see.
