Gas line leak

Post by Tundra Dweller »

While running the R to get stabilized gas through out the system before storage I noticed gas dripping off the right side.
Having already replaced the typical failing plastic quick dis-connects I raised the tank and found the output line from the fuel pump weeping when pressurized.
Ironically I had the same issue with my G-650GS this summer and found the OEM clip on clamp no tight allowing the hose to slide on the fitting.
I purchased a bag of screw type fuel injection hose clamps for the GS and will replace all the OEM clamps on both fuel systems this winter.
With a 18 year old Motorcycle I somewhat expect age failure, not with a 2013.

Those clamps don't last forever, nor do the rubber hoses. You may find that the rubber hoses have tiny cracks.

I've had the joint between the hose and the QD 'weep' a few times - I just give the clamps a good squeeze with an appropriate implement and they're find again. :) Never had an issue with the plastic QDs themselves.

Yeah the leak on the Sertao had the gas running down the left side right onto the pipe. I was JUST about get on it and ride it away and noticed it running off the swing arm. With the fuel pump and tank under the seat it would have made for a warm ride! Suffice to say I don't trust the OEM hose clamps at all.

Then last week I noticed a hydraulic leak on the wood splitter. Both hose clamps on the low pressure side of the pump had stripped out teeth due to vibration. Maybe I should change my screen name to”Hose Clamp” :O

That's possibly one of the reasons they don't use them from the factory?

To be fair that is not a fuel injection clamp, direct bolt to nut connection, which what I have for replacements.
Nothing is guaranteed. =P~

Spent some time in the shop whilst watching the playoffs this weekend.
Flipping the gas tank I found the fuel hose that was leaking had a crooked clamp on the ear.
The hoses looked good though they both would spin freely. I would venture that over time as the rubber compresses the non adjustable clamps are not tight enough. Replaced with FI clamps and safety wired. More to do....thankfully. ;)
