My last 2 builds have been R1150S bikes, modified 2004 Rockster engines for each, the R1150sR bike I'm working on has one of those engines (milder one) in it now...

Just rode our R1100S yesterday, that bike has more get up and go than our R1150R bikes. I think the 1100 engine has better flow with the cams and exhaust systems. It handles so nice, I'm hoping the Olins I'm putting on the R1150R ABS helps to get closer to the S but probably dreaming.
Also installed a Black Widow exhaust system on one of the R1150R (02) bike and ditched the cat. Bike seems to have better power and the cat weight was 12.5 Lbs. So the widow system change over saves a lot of weight especially if your still running the OEM cat and muffler. It still doesn't seem to have the power of the 1100S.

R1100S do make more power than R1150R bikes. The R1100S have higher compression, more cam, better exhaust and the weird subframe was to adapt the K1200 6-speed to the R1100 motor, that aside, aftermarket shocks are a very noticeable upgrade to these bikes and IF you want better handling (meaning turns easier), consider a taller shock in the rear, my R1150S bikes had 6mm added to the rears with a 10mm shorter Telelever, much closer to Jap bike nimbleness, best of luck...

Thanx for the info. Our S bike just got the Ohlins rebuilt by Ohlins USA and upgraded the exhaust to the Ztechnik last summer when we bought it.
