I have had around a dozen bikes going back 20 years, Honda, Norton, Harley, Kawasaki, MotoGuzzi, and even an old R60 BMW.

Always liked the character and quality of the bike and enjoyed a story about the URAL (russian bike) made on BMW equipment taken and shipped east from Germany in WWII.

Finally looked at the Busa (too fast for me in a large city) so I found a 2004 like new Cola Colored Rockster 200Miles on it, in New York when the snow was 8 feet high there and bought it. I am in Texas!

Love the bike, light years ahead in technology. Stops on a dime and gives you 9 cents change.

Excellent smooth turning and low center of gravity. Huge torque and plenty powerful for my 210Lb frame. Went to look at a Guzzi Breva (NEW) and they are nice but not the fit and finish of a BMW.

The sales guy said he could get a new Breva for me in three days to test drive and referred to the Rockster as a Plastic Whale. I bought the Rockster right away and have never heard back from the sales guy?

Now I want a K1200r and a R1200S...

Can't go wrong with any of them!

Finally, after all this time, I went to a BMW dealer and test rode a Rockster!

First impressions: Love the seating position, turns better than my 12R, confidence inspiring on quick stops, nice torque, weird gearbox (but so is my 12R), and I loved the "no dive" front end!

I want one with the Bags and all the extras. Soon I may be a Rockster owner!!! I can't wait!

The "bags and extras" can be had on ebay, etc. for less than retail if you've got some patience.

I actually lucked into a Sargent seat for mine from a fellow who had sold his R1150R roadster (seats, luggage, etc. work on both). The Sargent is one option I'd highly recommend.

You referred to a yellow color option. I think that that is the previous model year "regular" R1150R. The two color options on the Rockster are lime green/black or copper (orange) and black.

Having been an XB12 owner and a BMW owner I could tell on the first test ride that the R1150R turned much easier in the curves but not as easy as my BMW F605GS. That little dual sport rocks in the tight twisty stuff and the ground down foot pegs are the proof from my last trip to Deals Gap.

As far as dealer support, I deal with Mortons BMW in Fredericksburg, Va and they are awesome no matter what BMW you ride. I had several bad experiences with HD dealers when it came to the Buell. They seem to treat you like a red headed step child when it comes to getting anything fixed. I did get to meet Eric Buell at the last Buell homecoming which was pretty cool and he admitted that dealer support was a problem.

I would like to ride the latest Buell with the Rotax engine. I'd bet it's a lot smoother than the Sportster motor.

The reason I'm selling my Buell is exactly that - dealer support. Even though I love my Buell, I'll probably never purchase another Buell until they are sold by a dedicated Buell dealership. Maybe I was expecting "too" much from them, but somehow I understand why they treat Buell owners the way they do - "chrome cows" are indeed more profitable!

Well, doesn't matter now as I am set on a BMW Rockster, but Buell "lost" one more buyer! I usually buy a bike every couple years, but, once burned, never again.

One funny point; I had to overcome my mental image of BMW being "old-fart's" bikes. Mind you, I'm becoming one too , but as I was growing up with Kawas, Hondas, etc, I never even dreamed of ever owning a BMW. The thought just never crossed my mind until a few years ago. Now when I look at the newer R1200S or the K1200R, or the same older models, I'm shocked at how "blind" I was! Stupid mistake, I know, but that's how it was. Thank goodness I saw the "light"!
