Cheers,

I like to slow to a sub-warp speed and stand up on the pegs for a little while, maybe do some deep knee bends too.........boy, I must look like a retard.........do it when nobody is around.

I do it all the time too. I find that I don't have to do this often in warmer weather. But any long distance ride in 30 degree or below weather requires me to stretch out every couple hours on the highway.

I rest my legs on the jugs for long rides all the time. It doesn't burn through my textile pants and definitely not through my leathers.
It always freak out the Harley people when I pass by with the Throttlemeister on, legs splayed forward like I'm visiting a gynecologist, giving them a wave with my right hand.

Why wave with your right hand? That't what we HAD to do in the UK (driving on the left, bikes passing on the right). On mainland Europe and here in the US it does not make sense to wave with your right when bikes pass you on your left.

Only when no ones looking..

I rode like this occasionally to stretch out a bit yesterday on a 300 mile blast over the North Yorkshire moors. Didn't care if anyone was looking tho. Found a quotation the other day:
In our twenties we worry about what people think of us.
In our forties we no longer care what people think of us.
In our sixties we finally realise they weren't thinking of us at all!

My right knee starts to seriously ache after about 2 to 3 hours of straight riding (I seriously thought about buying a Motto Guzzi California because of the problem), but propping my legs up on the boxers really seems to help. However, I find the stock seat much too soft for longer trips, and as was mentioned earlier in this thread, this position puts some serious weight are your arse. I'm seriously considering the Sargent seat as they've gotten rave reviews on this site. Does anyone else have the "aching knee" issue?

Sometimes on long rides I do the opposite and put my feet on the passenger pegs, leaning my torso forward onto the tank. It's actually kind of a relaxing position and it straightens out the knees somewhat. Also gets your head out of the wind for a while. Probably I look like a freakazoid...oh, well....

Yeah, for some reason, my right knee gets the 'aches' rather frequently, and resting on the jugs doesn't help at all. I'll ride for a minute or so with both feet off the pegs, spread out to the sides, knees straight and that helps. I don't do it in the twisties, though.

I have rode with my legs on the pots on both my GS, and the R.
I find it ends up being uncomfortable on my back, and butt if up for too long. But , at least it gives you a bit of a stretch.
I also ride standing on the pegs- more comfort than the legs on pots.
And gives the butt region a spell.

I haven't found the need to rest them yet, but i like the idea of the elf pegs....I'd like to try them out.

Yeah, I like the idea of the ELF pegs as well. But not for that amount of money. I'd rather put it into engine guards.

That's always the first assumption. And it may have some validity (for factory parts, for sure). But, I suspect it's just the size of the market. You can absorb design/tooling costs into a H-D compatible part a lot easier than a BMW part.
The potential market is for a H-D farkle is hundreds of thousands if not a few million. (H-D riders are like crows, they are helplessly attracted to shiney objects.)
For a BMW R1150R a few thousand.

No damage will come of the bike but you just might get a little bit too warm!
Everytime I get the 'urge' to join the teeth jarring crowd - I come back here and read stuff like jon pierce's post - thanks guys for putting reality back in line

Passenger Pegs

As noted in a previous post, give the passenger pegs a try sometime to stretch out and relax. On long rides I'll sometimes lay down on the tank, put my feet back there and pretend I'm going even faster than 125mph!

I do it whenever I go on a long ride. In the winter, it'll heat up your legs a little too!
