My questions are, if folks were going to buy an R1150 R.
1 - Generally what year and model would you suggest e.g.
- Single or dual spark
- ABS or no ABS
2 - Does anyone have the number/ date etc of the tech advisory that deals with cutting the cable ties holding the wiring under the head light.
3 - What year did the new style cam chain tensioners become standard.
4 - Beyond the following mods what do you consider de-rigeur
- AF-Xied
- Lennies Rocket Sprockets
- Replace dash light tell tales with LEDs
5 - What stuff would you be keeping a real look out for as technical problems that could cause grief.
1. Any year bike that's in good condition. Or perhaps neglected, because there are so few serious flaws. There are simple remedies for cranky stick coils in dual spark (and later stick coils seem to have improved service life), and for iABS (remove it to convert bike to OE non-ABS specification... unless that causes mayhem with your insurance and local authorities).
2. Do this search for lots of info, and problems associated with broken wires:
search.php?st=0&sk=t&sd=d&sr=posts&keyw ... &start=160
3. No idea
4. AF-Xied is a strong recommendation. Have not installed my Rocket Sprockets, so cannot comment. And remember that the alternator requires conventional incandescent bulk for the "battery" warning lamp!
5. Final drive big bearing and clutch/transmission input splines are the only significant problems for the R1150** bikes... well documented, probably rare (if true statistics were obtained), but important to recognize.
