Valve Tapping?

First of all, Thank everyone who pitched in to suggest ways to solve this problem. It has been a long time since I first posted and with the noise coming and going over the last 4000 miles it was hard to identify. I was reading several posts on the BMW Sports Touring website and found one from 2008 that spoke to a similar problem and one suggestion was the Rocker Arm end play clearance. (It even came with a link to a very funny How to manual for dummies. Hope the link below works.) I am pleased to report that I did that adjustment this morning, setting the clearance on both heads to the minimum clearance of .002. Buttoned it up and took it out for a quick 50 mile run and voila! The noise is gone. Over the next few days I will get some stop and go traffic riding in to stress test it but based on the clearances for all 4 rocker arms having been at the very top of the range (.002 - .016), I am guessing that was the culprit. All I hear now hot or cold is the comforting ticking of a boxer engine. Next week it goes to a local shop for a TB balance. That should put it right as rain again.
