I purchased my "R" new in 2002, it was purchased to put me back on a MC after a few years without. It now sits with just under 50k, outside of the high oil consumption I have had no problems & it continues to run great. I have added a couple of MC's to the garage so the "R" dosn't get ridden as much as it use to.
But I still enjoy the ride, mnn

The "R" has given me many memories!!!

You've been great to have around.. nice to know I have R friend here in Iowa.
This is my third season.. and just put her back together after a clutch slave failure..

With everyone's great insight and encouragment, I had the guts to tear her apart.. and rather enjoyed myself in the process.. btw.. I bought a new digital camera.. and took LOTS of pictures. I would post them.. but I think CycleRob's narrative is better than anything I could do..

Two and half seasons (the other half was lost... ).. Anyway.. got her with 6700 miles.. now up to 38900. My goal is to hit 60K next year..

Yes Dad, I promise.. I will do the clutch spline lube this winter...

The Lifetime Membership is worth EVERY PENNY and more.. Which reminds me.. this winter.. I'll have to make it a DOUBLE!!

What mileage did you have when the clutch - spline went south?
My r1150r has now 55k miles I plan to take much higher than that, what are my chances and risks?

DJ, it certainly still looks new. You are close to passing "its old" to "its a classic".

6 1/2 years for me.

I'm always thinking about changing my Rockster but then I go out for a ride over the North Yorkshire Moors or Dales and I think to myself "Nah, this does everything I want of it"...... Having said that, I still fancy another Guzzi because the off-beat sound and vibration from those droopy t*ts makes me smile even more!

I had just hit 33K when it went out. I have taken great care of the bike and have not driven it really hard. When I spoke to the dealer, I told him that this is a part that should never go bad and I felt that I should not have to pay for this repair. He just smiled and agreed with me....sort of. I knew I was waisting my breath, but I had to say it.

You can pull the starter motor and take a peek at the splines to see what shape they are in.

6 Years 10 months and 63,874 miles on the 2002 R1150R, just 11 days short of 10 years as a member here.

Just passed 2yr 2mo on the better F800ST BMW twin.

We are a group of mostly responsible riders that regularly share experiences in our common interest; BMW bikes. The internet and digital cameras make that experience the next best thing to being there with them and their bike. The 6 Bashes I attended actually did put me there to ride and dine with the faithful. Lets just keep on riding. Maybe someplace like this post in Group Rides:

Almost 7 years on my silver R, and a year and a half on the Red R. I look at new bikes, but am very reluctant to move on. The bike is that good.
