I had a similar situation at the Honda dealership about my truck that is supposed to only take their proprietary transmission fluid. They used the warranty excuse with me, and when I mentioned the federal law to them, they quit giving me that line of bull. You should be able to document all the service that you have performed in the unlikely case of a warranty problem. Working on the bike is a big part of the fun and pride of ownership. The cost of dealer service is one reason I got rid of my 97 RT. Give the dealer a copy of "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance." Sounds like they need a lesson in philosophy as well as customer relations.
