Hey, let me know if you want me to ride along with you for the pickup (I live in Santa Barbara). We could even swap rides for a few miles if you want to see how a Bill Mayer saddle feels, or a tall Cal-Sci windshield. Weather permitting...

XProf (Professor, I presume), thank you for that very kind offer; we will in fact be riding through your area , although I really would have liked for my nephew to have experienced HWY 58. there will be many more rides for sure. i find the 154 between you and Los Olivos to be one of the more scenic roads i've ever ridden.

thank you once again, and take good care,

i finally took delivery of the motorycle! my nephew picked it up two weeks ago and rode it back to the bay area. he put on a total of 700 miles riding it between Santa Rosa and Santa Barbara where i met him this past Friday on my Guzzi Stelvio. We enjoyed a great night in town and headed back to Los Angeles the next day. Once home we changed the oil and gave it a good bath. We proceeded to put another 100 miles on it riding the Angeles Forest Highway and Upper Tujunga Road. So just about 1,000 miles on it now, 300 miles of it being ridden and enjoyed by yours truly. I like the motorcycle much more than i thought i would, specifically on the road, its riding characteristics are quite good for what it is. It's comfortable, agile, quick, and comfortable if i didn't already say so :) . The ABS brakes are truly fantastic and stop as well as any Brembo (other than monoblocks) i've ever used. I'd like to improve on the suspension (i've owned a GS, but all other motos of late have been Ohlins spec'd Ducati's/Aprilia's) and maybe give it some "pizazz" in the looks department (i find it to be a bit on the bland side). the mirrors must go, i find them to be functional but deserving of a "F" in the design department, they just don't look right on that type of bike (rizoma radials on order). I also question the handlebar design a bit but i understand why they're on there (function over form). i installed a Zard slip-on which i enjoy very much, and understand why some go as far as installing remus headers as well. a rear hugger is also on the way.

an almost perfect naked sports bike in my eyes, and one that i enjoy riding much more than i thought i would. the riding characteristics of the r1200r are well beyond what i think most people would imagine it offering, and i think that's what makes this bike as special as it is. a wolf in sheeps clothing if you will.....

great job, BMW =D>

edit: i chose against installing the Hornig Rear Seat Cowl (didn't fit all that well) and the Wunderlich Gauge Trim Kit......sometimes things are left best untouched.

Good move on the trim.. I've seen it on a few bikes (some with faux carbon-fibre) and it just looks added on (and I've never quite understood the faux carbon-fibre - it's adding weight to make something look lighter.. does not equate.. does not equate..)

As others have said:

They are Brembo, with the BMW logo!

Actually - not. The fronts are ummm... Japanese - Tokico. And they take Tokico brake pads. The rear is Brembo, and IMHO a bit crude (never liked sliding calipers.) The master cylinder might be Brembo. Dunno who built the ABS/link-module, might be BMW.

BTW - found Tokico is part of Hitachi..

I have a deposit on a non-ABS 2007. This is very tempting. For some reason I find myself hesitant. It's not the location that gives me pause, I could fly out to CA and put it in storage till the snow melts here.

Oalvarez.....

From your post in the "For Sale" section of this forum you write......
oalvarez wrote:It has 1k miles on it, has had its first service performed (brake line recall, fuel gauge strip replaced as well), and is in like new condition.
In this thread you write....

Just wondering.....is this what you mean by it having it's first service ? And I guess your nephew broke the bike in per BMW service manual ?

Sunny, Questy, i really don't think it's very difficult to understand. the r12r is a great motorcycle, i never said otherwise, and Questy, please don't mis-quote me. it's for sale because i want to sell it, and someone else is going to benefit because of it.

Ric, the first service was performed at Brown's BMW in Pomona, CA. they did the brake line recall and changed out the fuel sensor strip.

as for the break-in, it was broken-in using varied speeds on a variety of roads (city, hills, country, mountain, freeways).

regards,

olvarez, I intended no disrespect, but I wasn't quoting, I was paraphrasing and threw some hyperbole. Afterall you and I are not that much different; you with motorcycles, me with woman....either way it's expensive when you go thru a lot of them.
