Not that exact one, but I have fabricated things like that to try without a great deal of success.. and Laminar Lip makes them for lots of popular bikes.. some help, some don't (I've had both..) Since the angle on the MRA one is adjustable, at least it might be possible to set it to help make the flow more laminar (and less turbulent). The pic they show to me looks like it's going to be a noise/turbulence maker set in that position.

Just an update..

Got an email from another R1200R rider (who I don't believe is a member here - Larry are you here?), who I had been discussing shields with. He had (from memory) a CeeBailey set on the usual BMW Touring frame.

This is what he had to say:

Don - Had great success with your windshield solution. I moved the bracket out by drilling holes in the original lower mounting point plastic cover and installing two 1" chromed spacers under the looped bracket mount. Using longer 5mm screws, I am able secure everything through the plastic cover into the mounting holes. Although it proved a tense moment, as suggested, I bent the upper mounting bars slightly to reach the upper mounting holes. The result is a very quite ride. The bottom bar of the bracket doesn't fit snugly in the looped bracket mount but I'll probably wrap a thicker piece of rubber around the bar to create a tighter fit.

I believe what he meant to say was "The result is a very quiet ride."

That's been my conclusion using the tall CeeBailey shield on my inclined mount. It's actually quite satisfactory that way.. Protection is adequate for me (I'm not looking for RT/LT levels of protection) and with the right riding gear the bike is comfortable down to about 30F at NJ Parkway speeds (80-85 GPS MPH..)

I'm hoping my quest is done.. but 'ya never know. Maybe I'll start considering getting some tinted C-B shields..

Actually - no. Sorry.

Mine is repositioned, but done by modifying the actual bracket to have a longer bottom loop (the part that goes into the hook like clamp.) A former forum member had it done by a friend who is good with welding (or brazing, it looked brazed to me..) by cutting off the old loop, fabricating a new one and welding/brazing it back on to the bracket.

There was a thread or two where someone showed how they did the same thing by making a new bottom hook assembly from some scraps of metal.. but the simplest way to accomplish this would seem to be longer screws and some spacers to put under the factory hook.

To get an idea of where it would put the shield, on mine, the bottom edge of the shield is about even with the very front edge of the headlight. The top edge moves back toward the rider about 3" or so. The only change I made to the actual shields is I added some U shaped door-edge-guard (from an auto parts store) along the bottom end since light from the headlight was captured by the bottom edge of the shield and lighting it up (like one of those sign-boards with plexiglas edge illuminated and the glow-crayons..) I've tried it with the short CB and the tall CB - and the increased angle improves both.

When I put spacers under the lower windshield mount, I found that spacers thicker than about 1/2" caused the lower mount to lose its grip on the windshield bracket loop, allowing the windshield to lift up and back out of the mount under high-speed wind pressure. My half-ass solution was a pair of "hooks" fashioned out of metal strap. I reversed the hooks so that they face down, specifically to resist that wind pressure. Looks funky, but easy to do and works great. Here's a photo:

And here's a photo to show how much I tilted the screen, a bit more than the fork rake angle; this works well right up to 120mph. BTW: the SAENG swirl edging kills the "light-pipe" effect Don mentions, seems to widen the still-air pocket a bit, and I just discovered that it keeps the rain from streaming back into my face from the top edge of the shield. Yes, it is finally raining in Southern California!

I think I have someone to modify my touring bracket by increasing the size of the bottom loop (the part that goes into the hook like clamp.) When you have a moment, would you please measure the length of the legs on the modification so that I can try for the same result.

Hi Bruce,

Hard to get a tape measure in there.. but as best I can tell - it's about 1.75" from outside edge of frame to outside edge of the loop. And looking at my unmodified bracket - it looks like about 1" was added to the loop.

If you need a bit more accurate measurement, it will have to wait until it's daylight and warmer than 25F in the garage..

I wasn't expecting such a speedy reply. I know you southerners just got clobbered by the weather. Anyway, under my grandfather's tutelage, I learned to measure twice and cut once. If it would be OK with you, I will gladly wait for a brighter day and warmer garage and "a bit more accurate measurement".
