My Ducati had a thin cable that secured under the seat that was used as part of the helmet lock. You could fabricate something similar and secure it around the frame tube under the seat in multiple locations. The cables used as a safety anchor for wide screen TVs or other large pieces of furniture may be available at the local hardware store. If one end is looped and the other has an eyelet, you may be able to bolt it to the frame somewhere under the seat.



This is a photo of the cable that came with my flat screen TV. It is only used when it is on a stand, and I have mine bolted to the wall. If you want to try this cable, PM me with your address.

Bruno....how on earth would I mount a flat screen tv or dresser on the bike You think the helmet would be secure enough to not bang up against the paint? I appreciate the offer for the wire, I'll run up to the hardware store this weekend and take a peek.

I took the cable and looked for a good place to secure it on my rockster. Several locations seem possible and the helmet banging on the paint will really depends on how long the cable is and where it is placed. The use of any fastener that brings the helmet in close proximity to the paint has the potential to scuff and scratch either or both. The cable would need to pass under the side cover and come out somewhere the passenger foot rest or further back. I'm not sure how one could secure the helmet on the side of the bike in such a way that it would not move at all, but I'm sure somebody else probably knows how to do it. As others have indicated, the most secure location for the helmet is on your head...but who am I to tell you not to run with scissors. As for mounting a TV, you might as well mount one to the bike if you are not going to wear a helmet. It shouldn't increase the amount of risk very much more and scratching your paint would be the least of your concerns.

The helmet lock on the R1150R is a downright pain IMO. I always carry a bicycle cable lock in my tank bag. Bought it at the local dollar store.

Whenever we want to lock up our helmets we thread the bike lock through the D-ring or face opening of the helmet and lock it to whatever opening on the bike is convenient. It came in so handy I splurged and bought another one. So much happiness for only two dollars!

I've never tried it but seems like locking it on to the bike while riding would be possible. Like run the cable through the grab handles? Theoretically, of course.

BTW, you can put heat shrink or another plastic coating on the cable to keep it from scratching your helmet and/or bike frame. The advantage of using a cable is that it can be tucked away out of sight when not in use.

I've actually wondered about this too, but not for my personal helmet. Sometimes I'd like to carry a helmet on the bike while riding to go pick up a passenger, but the location of the stock helmet lock makes it almost impossible. On my old bike I could ride with a helmet hooked on to the underside of the seat, but haven't figured out a way to do it on the r1150r without using a case or bungee net.
