Should I give my insurance company the boot?

It might be a little different out West. I spoke with a couple of friends, and they both have gotten tickets (on otherwise clean records). They both noted that they've been with the same insurance company for a long time and that everything is insured with them. Perhaps it was because they also had a face-to-face agent, whereas mine was an anonymous face on the other end of a phone line. Maybe their insurance agents know how zealous some cops can be (like those who I have heard ticketing for 2 mph over the speed limit on strict, zero-tolerance days). Things ARE flexible out here... I have been (thankfully) let off on more tickets than receiving them. Officer's discretion. And, insurance agent's discretion.wncbmw wrote:Everyone's experience differs. For instance, dragonmojo changes companies for $10, because they won't give him a break on insurance but as the recepient of a few 'awards' by troopers, I know of no company that will let a speeding ticket pass unnoticed.
So far I am happy with GMAC Insurance, who has covered my bikes for many, many years.
Traffic signals timed for 35mph, are also timed for 70mph.

When I bought my R in 2003, I asked my Allstate agent for a quote. He essentially declined, explaining that said that even with my 3 cars and homeowners being with Allstate, motorcycle coverage would likely be well over $1,000. Even though it turned out that number was associated with a fully decked out American V-twin, I looked elsewhere.
I contacted one of the brokers (Motorcycle Services) I saw advertised in the MOA magazine who provided a quote for just under $400. This has declined every year - the cost this year was an even $200. This is full coverage with $300k/$500k liability limits.
The moral of the story is that it pays to look around.

Thanks Ivan!
Thank you for the information on Foremost Ins. My Progressive renewal premium was going to be $725. (Cook County, IL), but I called Foremost and it will be $452. The agent also said they include up to $3500. in accessories and $1500. for riding gear in the policy. This is a great site! Thanks,
Jerry

Yeah... like Hollywood governors and mayors. And a former Insurance Commissioner whose daughter was involved in an accident and lacked proper insurance. And San Francisco.wncbmw wrote:I hear California is that way about ALOT of things!Code: Select all

Perspective can be a wonderful thing...!
Here in Ontario, I pay just over $1000 per year for my '05 with full coverage. In my late 30s and been riding for years.
By the way...that is AFTER shopping around for the best deal!
My wife also has a bike (the new 2007 Versys from Kawasaki, it hits the USA for 2008, nice little ride, but I digress) and she pays a similar rate. We even have a 'multi-bike' household discount.
So, as I mention, perspective.
Cheers!
Chris
