Bike without wheels looks really weird.

So how many miles did you get on the PR2's and what did you replace them with?

Around my normal no matter what tire I run 4500 miles. Only this time it was front and rear with the front not holding up so well after being pushed hard.

That's why I'm glad to have the sport touring tires off the bike and super sticky high performance Pilot Power tires back on. The Pilot Road 2's where OK, just not as inspiring as I'd like when chasing super-motards in the canyons.
It's a huge difference how the bike falls in/leans in and tracks through a corner with the PP's, I've ran them before.
Personally, I want the best handling tires with no compromises for longer milage for the riding I do. Tires are much cheaper than hospital visits.
$285 front and rear installed, sticky as hell... what's not to like about that?


I love new tires.... think of all the fun to come on these.

I just mounted 4 new tires on my wife's F650GS and my R. Put Scorpion Trails on the R because we are heading to Alaska the end of this week. I put a Shinko Raven on the rear of the R in mid-April to see how it would perform. I put 4900 miles on it in 21 days. It lost half the rubber off the center tread area which is pretty decent wear, and although it is squared-off a bit it is no more than I would expect from a long trip with a heavy load. I'm hoping the Scorpions will last the entire AK trip which I estimate to be around 7000 miles. I'll mount PR 3s on it when we return in early July for our ride to MO.

By the way, buying a decent tire changer and balancer is ultimately a money saver. I have around $900 invested in my kit (NoMar & Marc Parnes) and have changed 11 tires in the 6 months that I have had the machine set-up. I figure I'll mount at least 5 more tires this summer. I calculate I will have paid for the machine in less than a year, and that does not include the savings incurred by buying tires online.

As you said.... nothing like riding on new rubber.

Those Scorpion trails look like they'd be good Alaska/travel tires, interested in hearing how they work out.... When I do hit the long road again I probably won't want track tires on my bike.


Hopefully someday when I grow up I'll but a tire changer, I agree completely with you about the investment. Unfortunately my big city apartment/loft living hasn't facilitated the space for such a useful tool..... but that's about to change when we move TOMORROW! - we finally got a house in the mountains far outside the city and I'll have room for one now.
I still change my dual sport tires with levers, used to change the R's tires with levers, I do have a Marc Parnes balancer already. The good part of all that hard work changing all those tires with levers is I'm darn good at it and when I get a flat, the tire is off and getting patched in just a few minutes..... break the bead with the side stand while balancing the bike on the center stand, then a quick patch and away we go!
Though now would be a good time in my life to start doing things the easier way with a tire changer.

That's one of the best looking new 12R out there right now IMO, the spoked wheels, silver sub-frame, clip on mirrors and black headers set it off.
If I may ask what did it cost to do the headers?
Ztechnik sport screen, yes? How does that work for you?

The headers are ceramic coated and were actually reasonable priced. About $160 to do them.

Yes the screen is the ZTechnic sport screen. I had the BMW sportscreen but it did nothing so I took it off, but that made the odd time I was running 110-130 kms/hr very tiresome. This screen takes almost all the windblast off my chest and I have no buffeting. The wind noise is maybe a tad higher than without, but not bad at all. I really like it. I also have the ZTechnic mid-size screen which I use if I know I'm going to do extended time on the superslab(which is not often). It's nice being able to switch between both screens in a few minutes as they both use the same mounts on the bike, just swap screens.

For reference I am 6' tall with a 32-33" inseam.

Nice guards BTW, while I haven't crash tested mine I did clip a semi tractor's foot step splitting lanes yesterday in traffic.... it seemed to work pretty good.

Bears???

Well this stout fellow was outside our door yesterday. Don't think yellow light will do much for him.
Saw about a dozen of his brother black bears on the 40 mile ride in from the Cassiar. They're like bunnies around here.

Oh geez. And we're going to camp around these "bunnies?" I might need more than one can of bear spray.
