I ride a new R1150R in black - I bought it from BMW Motorcycles of Cleveland.
I live in Chagrin Falls, Ohio - which is about 30 miles southeast of Cleveland. We are in the middle of the snow belt; which means about a mile of snow every winter.
My new R arrived in May of 2005 and it currently has 4800 miles on the odometer. I was hoping to hit 6000 before the snow flies. This is my second B'mer and only my second new bike.
I consider riding to be my therapy - without it I may go insane.

Have been a contributing life member for a long time. Computer issues kept me out of the system. A change in jobs has eliminated that problem. I am back to being my own boss so I administer the network. Any glad to be back on line.

I am a new beemer owner with my 97 R850 R. I was looking for a machine with better handling and more comfortable at speed. We will see if it is a good fit. So far, I am enjoying it.

I have been around bikes for years, but so far have stuck to 70s and early 80s japanese bikes. They are cheap to buy, easy to maintain, and fun to ride.

Hi everyone, I have just traded in my R1100S for a mint R1150R, decided to act now rather than later because of BMW deciding not to make any more! Looked at the 850R to begin with, but was tempted by this excellent example in my local BM dealer. They did £800 worth of servicing/new tyres/warranty etc. as part of the deal, and I have a real bargain (new panniers by the look of them, too)!!
Have only had the bike 1 week so not really got to grips with the different riding style; I had a red K75S for 8 years before the 1100S; going to the UK National Motorcycle Show on Monday, then maybe get chance to ride my new baby.
Looking forward to "chatting" with you all soon.

Proud owner of 2002 Yellow/Ferro ABS model . Delayed the test ride for months 'cos I knew what would happen - and it did! BTW, there were only four yellow/ferro models in NZ, but have since heard that one dealer has painted one of these black just to shift it...sacrilege!

Anyway, after 3 years and 40,000kms feel I've got a fair idea of what this bike is capable of. Mainly used for Sunday rides (say 3-400kms) with the BMWOR and longer trips, occasionally with HERBM (F650CS) in tow.

I work in the container transport industry and so meet many bikers coming into NZ with their bikes for a tour. Get jealous every time!

If anyone is thinking of coming over to ride here (road or off-road) some advice.....just do it!

Brand new to the list - Just found my way back after havig to sell my bike in 1986 to buy the dreaded MINI van - I found a 1995 r1100r - and fell in love - I fully admit i'm in a mid-life crisis - I told my wife it was either going to be an affair or a BMW - She told me both would propbably l=kill me - but agreed on the bike - My oldest son named it Ruby - So now when I'm out and about - they just tell people I'm out with Ruby. I guess it's an affair after all.

After years riding Hondas (CBR 1000. Backbird and Firestorm or Superhawk as it is called in the US) I have come back home to BMW R1150RT, last beemer I had was a R 100s so you can see it was a while ago.

I am a BMW virgin. I just got my first one so I guess that first statement isn't quite accurate anymore. I have an 04 Rockster in green. Parbellum windshield, peg extentions, Piaa Lights and Beemer Bags. I live in North East Texas.
I am starting to learn the joys of all year riding. I have rode cruisers, sport bikes, and dirt bikes, but this is my first "standard". I don't think standard quite sounds right. I think Freaking Awsom should be the replacement.
I am happy to have found this forum, and I look forward to all of the advice and knowledge that gets passed around in here. Thanks to the guys that have set this up.

I'm not a huge forum person, but as new owner of an 05 R1150R thought I'd benefit from the knowledge of others. I traded up from a 2000 R1100R, which was a great bike. The 1150 seems to offer major improvements in power and transmission...but I preferred the ergos on the 1100, as I am pretty short (5'5") and it was a bit lower. But a few changes should fix that (pull-back risers, low seat, etc.). Perhaps I'll post a separate post to see what people recommend for lowering seat height.

Got wind of this board from the guy I bought my '02 r1150r from. Didn't think much about it til yesterday when I think I did something bad to my tranny. Anyway, glad to be here. I used to ride dirt bikes as a kid and didn't get back on a bike til this year. Convinced my wife to do the same. She rides a F650ST and loves it. Managed to ride a 650GS into the ditch with authority during the summer by paying too much attention to the scenery and not enough attention to the road. Totalled it, but not myself. Got the R and absolutely love it. Just put the bikes away while it snows for a couple of months. Look forward to exchanging info. Cheers.

Well, glad to find this board. Just closed a sweet deal on a 2003 R1150R, non-ABS, Silver, new tires, new after market exhaust, tinted sport windshield, 18,000 miles for $6,200. I have ridden for 35 years and a weeks vacation in San Diego where I rented a R1150R and carved the canyons east of the City convinced me this was the bike for me. Past bikes include KZ1000, 900RR and TLS 1000. I'm an older rider (52) and the extreme sports bike riding position just wasn't doing it for me any longer. Sold the TLS this summer and tried to decide what to ride next. My brother rides a K 1200 LTD, but that didn't suit me after years on light, nimble sport bikes. Looked at YZF750-800 and Ducati ST3 and ST4. Found the best fit with the Beemer. Worst part is here in Massachusetts it will soon be way too cold and the snow and ice will be here in a matter of weeks. Can't wait until spring.

another new to BMW and to this list.
Recently became the proud owner of a slightly used '04 80e Rockster. Have learned plenty from the list already and the beemer continues to grow on me by the day, and also gives me time to spread bits of my Norton around the garage without losing riding time.
Loving the luxuries of electric start, oil tight cases, electrics that work in the rain, suspension that soaks up the bumps......
