Flight instrument exam
Midlife, Good luck and remember your holding pattern entries. I've been at it for almost 40 years having flown around the world. A great sense on accomplishment to fly on instruments.

Passed with a 90. Like a moron I left my E6B in the trunk, which would have given me an extra correct question (I screwed up the calibrated airspeed computation). I think the rest of the stuff I missed were trivia questions, nothing that would kill me in the real world.
So tomorrow night I embark upon my first IFR XC flight. Quite an epic journey; estimated 47 minutes enroute each way. Unfortunately, it will be my instructor's final flight of the day, and he'll be up against his clock time limit; we won't be able to go to Hooters at the other end. We'll land, taxi clear of the active, and request our clearance back home.
With any luck, I'll finish the rating by the end of June. Can't wait!

90! Good show!
They say a high score on the written will usually buy you some slack on the oral wit most DE's. Hope that's true for you!
Saturday turned out to be solid IFR but flyable. Still, there was a pretty good crowd. The warbird museum rolled out the Texan and did a few low passes - always a crowd pleaser!
I'm started flying GPS approaches today - with and without autopilot. No great mystery as to how to do it but I sure need a lot of practice to get this down.
Good luck, Mark. Let us know of any more developments.

Well, my XC to Providence didn't happen. Unfortunately I had my cell phone off, otherwise I would have gotten the message from my instructor that the plane was down for scheduled maintenace. I drove all the way up to the airport, got my weather briefing, did my flight planning, filed the two flight plans, then went out to preflight the airplane. It was at that point that I pulled my cell phone out of my pocket and noticed that I had turned it off. When I checked voicemail, I got the message from my instructor that we were SOL for the evening's flight.
Oh well, I still have the midnight Star Wars premier to look forward to! Now I need a nap before the movie. Nitey night!

MidlifeMark,
I know this was awhile ago. What even happened? Did you get the rating? I may start working on mine soon.
