Good food for thought.
When I decide on the camera choice....the next step is to conclude which retailer to choose.

I want to look at the A710 IS this weekend. It looks to be the best for what I need as far as size, quality etc.

I am narrowing it down to the 'dualsport' of camera's....I see it like the 1200GS it doesn't do any one thing excellent....but does many things very well.

I recently picked up a Canon TX1 Powershot. This is a small camera (fits in mans pocket & shirt pocket), that both shoots HD Movies & shoots 7.1 meg still shots. Shoots the still shots while filming. All on data cards. A 4 gig card is good for 30 miutes of HD movie. Downloads onto my Mac. Has a 10X optical zoom.

I think this is the current ultimate point & shoot. $499.

If you need fast speed (as in shooting kids sports) the current generation Canon digital Rebel is up to snuff.

I hope you bought a mounting bracket, and you can post a canyon video report! :P Does this camera allow you to zoom while recording in video mode?

This weekend I took the plunge. After much discussion and research I ordered a camera.

I ordered the Canon A710 IS

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/contr ... elid=14117

I am excited and hopeful that we become fast friends. This seemed to be the best for my pocket.... Pocket size...and
Pocket Book!

My aging eyesight and gloved fingers played a role in my decision as well.
It has one of the largest LCD's and the battery box creates a decent hand hold. The optical zoom is larger than I have ever had in a digital and the Image stabiliation will be new to me as well.
This little camera is Highly rated by Consumer Reports, Cnet and popphoto.com. Terrific information out there!

There is no ONE perfect camera...just one that meets the needs of the owner best. See...just like motorcycles.

I should receive it in a few days so hopefully I can have it 'tested' by next weekend and I wil post some of my newest pics.

I ordered from Circuit City...the price was low but I also had a gift card my folks had given me. Every bit helps. My total purchase with bag and 2 gig card was just over 300.00

Thank you for all the input....more to follow.
