I was out today on a ride before the rain came and had my iPod with me with a new "riding" playlist. It was a great ride - with great background music. On the new playlist - Ryan Adams, U2, Third Eye Blind, Goo Goo Dolls, Pat Green, The Wallflowers, The Fray, Jack Johnson, Counting Crows & Steve Earle

So I was wondering who are you listening to while you ride - or while you wait out the winter?

My music choices really depend on my mood so I will usually create a new playlist for each ride. It also depends on where I'm riding...sometimes I just enjoy listening to the motor.

Michael - Of Course, how could I have forgotten David Gray? I have everything by him (he gives a great concert if you ever have a chance to see him) and everything by Bob Dylan (who's latest CD is one of my favorites) and his son Jakob Dylan and the Wallflowers (who also do a pretty good concert). Of course they are always on any playlist I make. I too have different playlists for different things - fishing, riding (depending on the ride - either music to almost get in trouble with, or music for clearing my mind), crying, hiking, shopping, traveling, jury duty, etc. etc. But the peopleI listed in the first post make it on each of the playlists somehow or other. I'm glad to meet someone else who likes David Gray.

Retired the Mp3 player years ago. No patience for file management. Some of the music I like was abandoned by the record companies and it can't be downloaded or purchased anywhere but XM has it in their library.

XM Radio.

I have never listened to music while riding but recently decided that I needed something on the long interstate runs to keep my mind off my knees or butt hurting. Plan was to hook up the XM that moves from my office to the car from trips but now I plan to get an iPod. Simplier solution, especially since I don't plan to use it that much. Still feel no need for music on backroads or twisties.

BTW, I like some of everything you guys have posted! Quite a bit, actually!

My son has already downloaded all my CDs to a computer for his iPod, so I can put them on my own easily. He likes some of my old stuff, in addition to his current headbanger music.

I have an I-Pod and Sirius radio mounted on the R, and go back and forth between the two. I like the mix of music from the Sirius radio, and the mix of what I do have in my 'pod. I never got into detailed playlists on the I-pod since I only put on there what I want to listen to. Then I hit 'shuffle'. Listening to music is a great way to cover miles. Plus having the Sirius radio is nice to get back in touch with reality after a weekend of camping - it has all of the news channels.

As for the music I have on my I-Pod, it's a great mix of all things from classical to blues, instrumental, to hark rock/head banging stuff. The only thing I wish I could do is delete songs from the I-Pod on the fly. I don't know how many times I hear a song on there and while it was a good idea off the bike, doesn't work on the bike.

I usually listen to, well, me. I might not be a Bennett, a Pavarotti, or a Bocelli, but the price is right. For the last two weeks, I've been entertaining the people in the next lane with some Merle Haggard material like:

If I'm riding between 6-11am weekdays, I'm listening to Opie & Anthony on XM radio. Otherwise, I'm tuned into Fred, Ethel, Lucy, or Chill (all on XM). If I can't get any reception, my current playlist consists mainly of:

Nah, but I did see him on 12/23 at the Canal Room in NYC. In-between each song, Dolby tells stories about his life, his music, and his business (he invented poly-phonic ringtones for cell phones back in the early 90s).

If you can get Merle Haggard's music on CD, then you can get it on an iPod. And iTunes has about 20 albums of his, averaging around $10.00 a piece. You just download it to your iPod.

Just get you some good earphones that sit deep in the ear - like Munchmeister mentioned, or there are cheaper ones that have a foam earpiece that can sit deep in the ear like an ear plug. That'll work.

Well that sounds good but, then I can't hear my radar detector (I'm using a splitter between the two)

I've tried the iPod by its self with "blasters" helmet speakers....I'll try the separate earbuds next time with the speakers plugged to the Valentine
