I found this link on another motorcyle forum to the pictures from the original trip of Robert Pirsig. It's nice to see the photo's after reading the book so long ago, and thought I'd share it here.

Man, for me, that book was such an intellectual heavy weight that the only concept in it that I remember was the importance of "quality" and the impossibility of ever really being able to achieve it.

I read it last summer and thought it really was a major work. I could not understand how this book could be assigned to high school students; they just didn't live enough yet.

The edition I had contained an epilog about Chris's death at age 21 at the hands of a mugger in SF.

I had found the first pic, as a B&W, and had it as a wallpaper at work, but the color pics are something. Yeah, those pics are scenes straight out of the book.

It's eery to see him in these actual scenes, in the book his internal dialogue seems almost more real than the trip itself.
