I read it last summer and thought it really was a major work. I could not understand how this book could be assigned to high school students; they just didn't live enough yet.
The edition I had contained an epilog about Chris's death at age 21 at the hands of a mugger in SF.
I had found the first pic, as a B&W, and had it as a wallpaper at work, but the color pics are something. Yeah, those pics are scenes straight out of the book.
