My ABS is kaput

Post by fnfalman »

My ABS kept shutting off so I took the Rock to Brown BMW and they tried to do a diagnostic on it. The GT1 couldn't do any reading so they disassembled the tank and went at the ABS unit. The latest word was that my ABS is kaput and needs replacement. They got a new unit coming and will install it comes 23 SEP 06. All under warranty, of course.

It's getting repaired right now as I'm typing this post. All under warranty, and yes, the servo whatchamacallit would have costed around $1900 PLUS labor.

gringo_69,

That's how mine was too. Intermittently shutting off with no rhymes or reasons.

Supposedly it's a rare occurrence. The dealership said that they only had two others (a K1200LT and a R1150R) that suffered the same problems and the ABS were replaced under warranty.

I've heard horror stories of how BMW doesn't honor their warranty, but this episode was rather painless. It's probably because it's a known and documented problem?

Reinforces why I modulate my own brakes.

Believe you me, no more servo-assisted brakes for me. As a matter of fact, no more ABS unless it can be switched off. I'll determine when to have my ABS/ASC activated, thank you very much, and not some German dude who thought when I need these things to be on.
