speedomer/tach glass

Post by gel9001 »

I had my tach switched out a few months ago under warranty, cause water was getting inside. Now i've got "swirl marks" on what looks like the outside of the glass on both speedo and tach. I only use soap and water to wash bike and occasionally wax the glass with Maguire's. Could this was have damaged the glass. The damage does look like its on the outside, but I guess it could be on the inside of the glass. Any thoughts?

Could the swirl marks just be from the wax?

Try cleaning with Meguiars clear plastic polish, then use the clear plastic cleaner for normal cleaning. I can't see why you would wax them.

using wax is a quick way to get them polished. I've always done that. I've just never know wax to leave that kind of residue. Yesterday I washed the bike and couldn't get the "blemishes" out.

Mine has also done this. I took it to the dealer and they said it was a "3M" coating that was used to prevent fogging. There is no way to fix this except to replace the instrument. Mine is still under warranty if I ever get it there to have it swapped. The coating is inside glass of the instrument.

Did your tach look like this before you had it swapped?

If it bugs you, have your dealer swap them out. When I eventually get there that's what is supposed to happen in my case.

The pic is when the condensation has dried, it gets bad in foggy/humid conditions.
