I think your dealer removed it to help with any surging issues that it might have had.

Once it's removed it puts the bike into it's Euro mode..for the fuel injection.

I've heard of pink, yellow and grey...they all are slightly different.

Mine was yellow..and I took it out..my bike surged a little before but not anymore.

Don't worry about it.

I have heard that the plug is used on California models, and non-CA dealers pull it at assembly time.

I hope the dealer did not remove it...they violated a couple of Fed laws if they did.
That said, my 04 came from the dealer(s) without a CCP also. I say 'dealers' bc mine was shipped to Columbus from California. I doubt the Cali dealer removed it...based on the environmental sensitivity out there...
FWIW, when I was researching my Techlusion, I read on their support forum that some late model Rs came from the factory with no CCP. One of the Mods there seemed to be able to research this by VIN number. Thus it was OK to use their R259, even tho the instructions say the original CCP must be installed.
Their forum is the only place I've ever heard of CCPs not being installed from the factory....

My '04 did not have one in there since new. Never really had a surge problem either.

Yellowjacket:

I have a '04 and my slot is empty as well. I have never had any sevice done other than regular maintenance sevice so, I assume, there was never any reason to remove any component.

It is the other way around. Euro bikes also have the Yellow CCP. By yanking it we get to ride in Yankee mode. :D

And to think this all started when I flipped open Dave's fusebox cover and immediately said . . . . "Your Code Plug is missing" (actually CatCodePlug).
I too suspected dealer trickery in his bike's CCP removal. Turns out "They all are like that" . . . CCP's not installed at the factory, not tricky dealers!

Why wasn't the wire harness updated with the dual spark upgrade?
-or-
Is there still a capability to handle the need for something like an 85 octane CCP?
