Sump Plate Pictures... I think mine is missing :(

Post by hevnbnd »

Well bought my bike used and just went to change the oil and I am pretty sure my SUMP Plate is missing. When I look under the bike I can see the bottom of my oil filter... Should there be something covering it? I searched the forums and could find no one that had a picture of the underside of their bike.

Thanks for the pics. I have a manual for a R1150gs and spoke of it. I just thought it was missing. How am I supposed to get the old filter out? Can I do it without the BMW Tool? Also why the big magnet? Thanks for the info.

Yes you need a special tool to remove the filter..you can buy the genuine BMW tool..(well worth the few extra bucks)..or buy a cheaper one from an auto store.

The magnet is just an idea that CycleRob gave me..he uses one and says it helps with the filtering of some of the fine metallic particles that might be in your oil.

It seems like a good idea..and I just happened to have a magnet that was a perfect fit.

Here's a pic of a filter tool..shown center in this picture.
