I belong now: Just got my own R1150R!

Post by ruddy »

I just bought a 2003 non-ABS 'R with a pair of Motolights mounted on the fork lowers, both the high and standard factory seats, a BMW plug-in battery charger, a Kryptonite EV disk brake padlock, a locking oil filler cap, a small clamshell Chase Harper strap-on tank bag, a bungee cargo net and red LED flashers that trigger with the brake light for $4,900.

It's got more miles than I'd like, 27K, but it runs like a dream and has been routinely serviced by a BMW dealer when due. I picked it up yesterday and rode 398 miles to get it home. It fits me like the proverbial glove (with the tall seat) and cruises effortlessly at 90+ MPH (although I snuck it up to an indicated 120 at one point).

I am now one of you. :D

DJ is right. From what I hear, the bike stops burning oil around 20K, and just gets better and better from there on out!
Under 5 grand seems like a steal of a deal! Welcome to the RR nation.
Enjoy the ride!

It's metallic silver and really clean. There are some scratches on the right valve cover, but I figure a place here in Spokane that rebuilds aluminum boat propellers can fix it up as good as new fairly inexpensively. The bike doesn't look like it's ever been dropped, so I don't know how they got there.

I forgot to mention the windshield and the Snell approved black BMW helmet the seller included. :D

Welcome aboard Ruddy!

After 3 years with my R, the honeymoon just goes on and on....

You will find that there is a wealth of information to tap into on this forum, through both the archives and current discussions. Aside from the pure entertainment value of interacting with the great members here, I know I've saved hundreds if not thousands of dollars performing my own service thanks to the shared knowlege here at R1150R.net .

Dont know how fussy you are with visual things like scratches etc but a new valve cover is around $145 if that place cant fix it. Welcome aboard!

As you already found out, you got a great bike. You'll also find out that this is a great board.
If you really want to replace your valve cover, the part number is 11-12-1-340-904 and lists for $101. You can get it at a 20% discount through Chicago BMW.

ruddy - welcome to the forum! This is the best place on the internet for the R1150R and has some other qualities also, as witnessed by the number of folks who have sold or traded away their Roadsters and still hang here. Good group of people! :D

And don't worry about 27K on the clock. It is just now broken in. Several board members have much more than that and I intend to pass that mark before the year is out!
