Okay Gang of All:
Time to stop asking and start telling. What are your preferred oils? No arguments, just lists and reasons. We'll take the arguments outside!
Mine:
Engine: Boxer engined Oilheads - Devo 400, Delvac, Rotella. In 15W40 blend. Because they come in handy 4 quart containers that double for disposal. They are well formulated for the type of engine we have. They do the job at a reasonable cost. They are readily available at most auto retial outlets. It's a non-thinking solution for me.
K1200R engine, trans, clutch combo: BMW 20W50 semi-synth from dealer. Not as readily available, but I have not done enough research to find a comfortable substitute yet. Pricey but well made and recommended.
Boxer Tranny: Redline HD Shockproof. Hard to find but worth the effort. Very smooth and holds heat well.
Spill your guts....

Castrol magnetec semi synthetic. 10w-40 http://add-on.castrol.com.au/magnatecgilchrist/
DJProtection from the moment you turn the key
Start driving from the word go
A 10W-40 viscosity engine oil, Castrol Magnatec has been reformulated to deliver greater wear protection from the moment you turn the key.
Features 'Unique Molecular Attraction' that dramatically reduces engine wear at start-up and warm-up and leaves a continuous film of oil on the engine parts after the engine is turned off.
Now that I have done the 10,000klm service, I am running Mobil Racing 4T
full Synthetic. I have used this in all my oilhead Beemers, and no problems, and very little useage between services(every 10,000ks)
I use Mobil 80W-90 gear oil in trans and final drive.
(All this helps when you work for the Mobil distributor!!)

2002 R1150R.
I prefer clean oil, brand name, synthetic mix. I look for the proper API class on the label, and then get what's on sale that matches all of the above. I'm not loyal to any brand, especially when I asked the old wise service manager at Morton's (Charlie) and he told me he uses Wal-Mart brand in his own bikes - it meets all of the requirements.

At 20K mi I am still using non-synth with the recommended API. I've learnt that one should switch to synthetic after the engine has stopped burning oil. My r1150r still consumes about 1/4 qt per 1K mi. I don't know if I should switch to synth already or not !
Nobody is sure perfect, but she practiced tirelessly !

Run up to Big Bear a few times, run it through the gears with plenty of throttle and really work it out, as my buddy says, "beat it like a redheaded step child". it will stop burning oil after a few of those trips. Worked for me anyway. BTW check the oil when you get home, it will need for the after the first time or two.
