Communication for Rider and Passenger, and Bike to Bike

Hiya folks, my Mother has recently decicded she really likes my bike, and riding with me. I am getting a little tired of the "tap 47 times if you need to go bathroom, or 48 times if you need me to stop...(

).

Was wondering what was out there for comms..I have a full face my Mom has a 3/4 face. I would rather used, new would be prohibitive right now (Read: Rebuilding $ailboat). Any thoughts or suggestions?

Dwayne,

You have to get the "BMW Motorrad USA Acceessories"catalog from a dealer. It is about 3/8" thick and has all the great stuff and part numbers. Budds gave me one for free.

If Open Road won't give you one, try Toronto or Budds. Wolf BMW in London also has a great little mail order catalog.

Cycle World in Etobicoke is a good source for non-BMW gear and less expensive items. McBride Cycle in Toronto also has some interesting gear and they flog Beemers.

I have some riding buddies that have the Autocomm system and love it. Someday I'll have one on my bike too, probably after I buy new shocks! A WHILE after I buy new shocks!

I have a simple little NADY unit that I use. The helmet units are a boom mic and speaker. We jusr stuff them up in our helmets and plug into the unit and go. It can be powered either by the bike or with batteries. What you'll find with the cheap intercoms is that they're no good at any speed over about 50mph. But, for just running down the coast talking about the sights the NADY works for us.

Another vote for Autocom, although to be fair I know that many users are happy with their Starcom & Baehr units.

I never liked the motorcycle specific communications. Way to bulky and overpriced. Just get a couple FRS radios that can do VOX and some ear mics.

If you don't like having something stuck in your ear you can go for a throat mic.

A couple cheap FRS radios and the throat mics (boom mics don't work well over 40 mph due to wind noise unless you have a big windshield to block the wind) could be well under $100.

Yup. She actually likes it when I ride the corners low. Can't figure that one out... and she's 50...ish. Oh well. I found a cheap helmet to helmet setup, I'll see how it works for our ride to pd13. http://www.pd13.com

I got my M-1 Autocom used for $150.

Why spend money twice? Watch eBay and save up for an Autocom.

I've got the Pro-7 Sport, Autocom and LOVE IT!

Performed flawlessly on the ride I took my 16 year on, to Georgia, from Baltimore.

Not sure I am going to like having this on my helmet so no sense spending money...more money. If I like it then I'll look at better models, but I need to see if this is something I want after I've had a chance to play with it.
