Watch out for Turkey Buzzards!

Post by Biff's R »

I hit a turkey buzzard last Saturday while riding on some nice backcountry state routes(OH 60 between Dresden and Warsaw). I was/am fine, and kept on going. It hit on the windshield and left mirror, and put a little bend in the clutch lever. The bird did not fare too well, and some of his guts were hosed off of my riding gear when I returned home. I washed my riding gear at the laundromat afterwards.

I had a feather stuck on one of the mountd for my sport shield.

Glad that the buzzard got the worst of it *phew*

If ever there were a grim reaper on earth, that ugly bird would be it!

If he has scored a head shot, you'd be in trouble!

Glad you are OK. I had a turkey nearly get me in the head once. My last second duck caused him to only brush my helmet with his wing. I figured no one would believe me. I guess the buzzard guts are your proof!

Wow, considering what they eat, that must have stunk!

Yeah, any bird that feeds on carion or is otherwise flightless and needs to cross the road on foot are to be wary of. I've had to duck and/or swerve on many an occasion cruising through the countryside!

It did smell, but only when I was stuck at a traffic light or stop sign. I apologize for not getting any pictures, but I had left my camera at home.

Hey Jeff, I know the smell

Last year, I had one graze my handlebar and hit me in the hip. Decomposed, partially digested roadkill all over me. Not a pleasant smell but I was just thankful I didn't go down.

Sorry Vann, no photos from me either.
