Deano, thanks I may order from Bob's or call in my order to chi bmw to save on the shipping compared to ordering from 2 sites. Bob's doesn't navigate well unless you know the actual part number (just like chi bmw).

After checking three other auto parts stores...

Just found a NAPA part today that does the trick.

Part # 3862. End cap oil wrench, 900 series professional, 76mm, 14 flats

Its structual plastic, steel insert at center, made in USA, lifetime waranty

Its a snug fit in the well, but you can get it all the way down over the BMW filter.

I agree with GeoffJ. The BMW tool was only (AUS)$17 and it paid for itself in its first use. It's die-cast alloy and quite sturdy - it also has BMW cast onto it. :lol:
