Sad to be leaving, but happy for the reason

Hello all,

Sadly, I sold my R1150R. This bike was the best motorcycle that I ever owned, or rode for that matter. The good part is that my wife and I are selling out and going to live on our sailboat, a move we've been planning for many years. I had hopped that I could keep the R, but when it became obvious that the bike would be sitting in a garage for extended periods of time, I decided it would be better to let somone else enjoy it.

All that being said, I'd like to thank Doug and all the other moderators for hosting such a great and informative site. I'd also like to thank all folks that make up this community. They have been an invaluable source of information since I first started lusting after an R.

We'll be leaving the great lakes in the fall, heading south to FL. We'll winter in the Ft. Myers area and work there till spring. Then we hope to hit the Bahamas for a couple of months before heading up the east coast to the Chesepeake bay for the summer.

just got home with the bike--no problems on the trailer, and it's in my garage for the moment, until Will can make room in his garage.

Thanks for making Will's purchase so easy and thanks for all the "goodies"--the bike is immaculate, and Will is going to enjoy the heck out of it!

King biscuit, please tell us about your sail boat.

My sister and her husband have a 40' Island Packet located in Kemah, Texas and in one of my many former lives, living in southern California, while being employed as a test piolt for Aerostar, I was a qualified skipper of a 1936 67' Alden Yawl. Used to sail all around all the off shore islands in that fantastic old boat, had a knock down once in it and another time even submarined it. That old beauty had tree grown timbers, an 85' main mast and a 2200 sq ft main.

Those were the days.....still going on however.

Hi Dean,

Man, those old boats are incredibly beautiful! I bet you really enjoyed sailing on that, but it must have been a lot of work to maintain it. The IP 40 that your sis and BIL have is a great boat too. Our boat is a 1978 CSY 37 Plan B. It's a big, beefy boat that suits me just fine. It's not a round the bouys racer, but it's very comfortable. It's cutter rigged and is pretty much designed for a couple to live aboard. The CSY stands for Caribbean Sailing Yachts and these boats were made for that purpose.

The best of everything to you. What an incredible way to live! I'd leave land in a minute to live on the waters if I could only figure out how. As Noman Maclean said, "I am haunted by waters". Have a great time - send back pictures. Enjoy life.

During trips to the beach, I have pointed out nice sailboats to my wife and mentioned the same possibilty when the kids are gone. She just looked at me funny! Guess it is just as well, I get seasick!

Funny how riding the R keeps me away from the sea...I only live 15 miles from the ocean and 4 miles from the sound!

I sailed with my uncle on his various boats throughout the years. My favorite being a Hinterhoeler Nonsuch...that wish bone boom, wide beam, and fast hull made for a great sailing experience. Super quick for it's size.

Good luck and sorry about you selling your bike...but when/if you sail down to Australia you can take mine for a spin.

One of my best mates sails his boat in the Sydney to Hobart race each year..I'd love to join him doing it one year.

I love sailing but a windsurfer is the best I can afford..
