Anyone interested in the new BMW K1200GT ?

Last night I got to have a good look at and sit on the new GT....t'was nice...

This is the first time the bike has been seen since its release at Milan last week....lucky me..

I'm 6'4"...it was very comfee.



Notice the seat is different from the S and R...it's much softer and two piece.



The headlight is all wiz-bang....can't remember the name/type...xion or something.



The bars are adjustable...they come up and back...notice the two bolts at the back...er..I mean front.





It has a low pipe..full size bags..and bigger soft foot-pegs.

With all of your nanny cams & stuff down there that bikes gonna cost you your license! Won't be much fun under 130mph. I bet its as stable as a rock.

I thought the KR looked more your style.

I'm coming around to the idea that I like riding a boxer, able to ring her out abit more on the public highways without risking incareration, & the boxer with those cyclinders hanging out just seem to me to be what a BMW is.

OTOH, that GT may be the most rideable K bike yet. Looks like it'd be great fun to ride out west here, take the bags off, and have some sportin fun.

Biff's R....early in the night there were lots of people and the bikes had the little signs..I thought bugger!..

but later on they took off the signs and we were ok to try them all out.

Yes, I am interested. Very. How tall are you, by the way. It looks from the picture that you might be a little less than comfortable. Funny reach to the bars? Any price information. Weight? And especially...seat height. How many liters/gallons in the tank?

arkline...I'm 6'4"....the bars were in the low and forward possie.

I'm not sure about tank size or weight...I'll try and find out.

btw...I was blown away when they said the new R1200 GSA could do more than 700 kilometers on one tank...I'm not sure what that is in miles..it's a lot.

Here's a couple more pics..the bars had a nice width and down slope..they felt good.

That's about 425 miles! Wow.

I don't want to be interested, but must admit I am! Having seen the original pics and thought nothing, then Milano photos, now DJ's shots, I am getting the feeling that this is a good rendition of the new K in touring guise.

DJ, with you on board, the slab sides do not show as much or as garishly - just takes the right person filling the seat, I guess.

Now, not to pick, but to observe: are those re-used parts bin items for the grips and controls? mirrors? pegs? triple tree base? I think I can see pieces of the R1100S, R1200CL, K1200RS, maybe more. Wise BMW green shaders perhaps?

It's much more upright...and shorter to the bars...bigger cushier seat.

Not sure I agree there...it all looked new to me...they did stress that this bike is a pre-production bike..so some things might change.

I'm conflicted, and sure as hell ain't rich enough to consider one........

1) I love the color scheme of the bike pictured!

2) The hard bags are 100% better than the expandable bags available for the 'R' & 'S'.

3) The traditional round/analog/symmetrical speedo-tach'...... does NOT look like anything BMW would make (????).

4) Absolutely LOVE that BMW has thought to put "adjustable" handlebars on their touring -SPORT- cruiser.

Sooo...... what am I conflicted about?
I've ridden the K1200R, and have listened first hand to comments being made by it's owner over the last 6,000 miles. Unless BMW has done something to address the "notchy" and/or "overly-sensitive" throttle......
- AND -
detuned that 140 hp (to the rear wheel) engine, to a more user-friendly powerplant,
THAT THING IS STILL GONNA BE A HAND-FULL!

I might also add that it would be a machine best suited for a rather sporting young couple and all their gear, touring on roads that DO NOT INCLUDE tight switchbacks. That thing has a long wheelbase, and it takes concentration on the part of the pilot to maintain strict throttle control. That's a bike you roll out of the garage for a serious weekend road trip; it's simply too much for the likes of a quick thrill on twisting & winding California back-roads.

But I'd surely accept it (just like the one pictured!) if one was given to me......

Yes, I admit I am. I have four bikes on my to-get list over the next six years:

1) BMW R1200GS or R1200GS Adv.

2) R1200RT

3) K1200S or similar sportbike

4) HD Street Rod

The way I figure it, I can meld #2 and #3 into one and simply get the K1200GT instead - a bike more than fast enough for my desire with touring ability.

Xenon headlamp on a production bike? It's the first I've heard of this being done. Having Xenon lights on my sedan with automatic leveling to prevent glaring opposing motorists' eyes, I have to say I like them a lot - it lights up the world.
