Just a little something to get your salivary glands going... Anyone got special recipes they'd like to share? Photo Courtesy of Frank Perdue...

That picture does not get my salivary glands going, and I don't have any recipes to share, but thanks for asking.

Just trying to get people in the holiday spirit, Mr. Grinch. Generally, I believe in the maxim "if you don't have anything nice to say, say nothing." Happy Thanksgiving!

Can we avoid name-calling please? Oh - and I happen to think the Grinch is cool!

Oh - and the reason the picture doesn't make me salivate is because I am a vegetarian.

I'll play that baster! I was 3rd chair basterist in Jr. High.

You became a carnivore again for something called a "Turduken"?!
Man, that sounds awful.

Well I might be Canadian but I am planning on celebrating US Thanksgiving! I have booked next Thursday and Friday off work as vacation days. I have my turkey ordered. While my wife is at work on Thursday and my kids are at school, I will prepare the turkey, sweet potatoes, turnip, carrots and pumpkin pie. All while watching football and drinking beer. Oh, and giving thanks for the fact that I can do ALL of this. And giving thanks for my continental brothers and sisters south of the longest undefended border in the world.

And I'll be giving thanks for my continental brothers and sisters north of the longest undefended border in the world. (It takes both of us to make it work!) Anyone else been to the memorial at Put-in-Bay on South Bass Island?

Oops, I don't mean to hijack!

I do have a question for our vegetarian friends. How do you indulge on Thanksgiving? It hasn't happened yet but I would imagine I will have a vegetarian guest for Thanksgiving dinner and it would be good to know what to serve!

when I was vegetarian, we used to cook a "tofurkey". As tofu products go, I find this one of my least favorite. It's a round rubbery mass that sort of looks like a lob of turkey breast. I say avoid it, my wife likes it. The tempeh drumsticks it came with were actually very good.

The gravy sucked.

Tofurkey

Post by Kevin »

I've been a vegetarian for about 13 yrs and have indulged in the tofurkey for the past 4 or 5. The tofurkey loaf, itself, is not so bad, but I'm not a big fan of the stuffing they put in it. Reminds me too much of the nondescript mush found in many school and hospital cafeterias. They did away with the tempeh drumsticks last year, I believe, in favor of cranberry and potato dumplings, which were actually pretty good, though a bit on the rubbery side. The meal still includes a tofurkey jerky wishbone, which is pretty much there for sentimental value only. I probably am foregoing the tofurkey this year, though, as I always find there is plenty of food on the table without it, including stuffing left out of the bird just for me, homemade cranberry salad, and my mom's sweet potato souflee (made with soy flour instead of eggs, just for me) that makes the year's wait well worth it. :D :D

Hope you all get to pig out too and have a great Thanksgiving!! :D
