New tires 180/55 Pilot Road

Post by israel »

The closest thing around is 180/55. Should I get them now
or wait 10 days for 170/60??

I would wait the 10 days. The 180 may rub due to width, and a 55 will certainly not wear like the 60.

The experts always say to stay with the original fitment.

The R1150R has a 5" wide rim.....the 180 tire has been designed for a 5.5" wide rim.

You can mount the 180 tire on the 5" rim, however the "crown" of the tire (portion in contact with the road) will be tucked in slightly by the narrower rim and could potentially not function as intended....that is in addition to the potential interference mentioned in the post above.

I would wait for the 170 size......

Even my Avons rub the catalytic converter, I would NOT go larger than recommended!
